Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress is a stand-alone board game for 1-5 players
set onboard a mysterious alien spacecraft in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
We have made a Demo Pack available for launch to make showing off this game really easy.
These instructions are for running demos from the materials provided in the Demo Pack.

Rules for using all of the miniatures in this set in games of Warhammer 40,000 are included in the box.
SET-UP & PREP
GOOD NEWS:
Set-up for Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress is easy. Simply follow the instructions in the Quick
Start Guide. You’ll use a selection of board tiles, cards, dice and a handful of miniatures. Put the rest
of the game to one side as it isn’t needed for demo gaming. Demos will vary in length depending on
what the customer wants from the experience, however, if you allow 15-20 minutes to run a demo you
should usually find that sufficent.
PREP:
We’d recommend reading through the Quick Start Guide and preparing everything in advance of your
first customer demo. The miniatures provided have two colours: the explorers (the good guys) are
supplied in red plastic and the hostiles (the bad guys) are
supplied in grey plastic. Fear not, they don’t need glue
and are easy to assemble for your demos so an hour or
two of preparation should suffice. As it’s a board game,
the amount of space you require is less than what you’d
typically put aside for Warhammer 40,000 or
Age of Sigmar, a 3’x3’ tabletop should do fine.
This demo game has a low model count, and games can
be played quickly and easily by anyone. As such, reading
through the Quick Start Guide and running through
a quick test game beforehand will give you enough
experience to run the demos. In fact, experienced board
gamers amongst your customers could probably be given
the Quick Start Guide and will figure it out for themselves
in a few minutes if you’re busy with other customers
in your store. Of course, having your demo next to your
stack of Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress boxed QUICK START GUIDE
sets never harms sales! JUMP INTO THE GAME QUICK WITH THIS PRACTICE ROUND

ADVERTISING
There will be plenty of people interested in playing the game before it’s on sale in your stores due to
promotion by Games Workshop both leading up to and following release.
Of course, this is all just support for your own promotion, directly to your customers and via your own
online communications, for which we’ve provided digital assets alongside the promotional materials for
the launch, such as posters and invitation cards.

REMEMBER:
Telling everyone to come in and check out the latest game is
the surest way to ensure your demo activities are full!
PLAYING GAMES IN-STORE
Demos should be tailored to different customers: an effective demo given to those who already play
miniature games or board games will be very different from one for those who
have little to no experience with these types of game.

DEMOS FOR
EXPERIENCED GAMERS
The new miniatures and rules are what
these new customers will be most interested in.

INTRODUCTORY DEMOS
When showing games to customers who have never played similar formats of miniatures or
board games before, we have some specific tips:
• TAILOR IT TO THE CUSTOMER
Gauge your customer’s level of interest and experience, and run the game accordingly. For
some customers, a quick run-through of the most basic points is enough. You may not need
to run through the entire demo. In any case, keep it simple: avoid describing the rules or
getting into detail.
• BUILD TO A CLIMAX
This is vital with any introductory activity - you want it to finish on a high for maximum
impact. You’ve already set an objective, so the hard part is done. Now you need to just
keep reminding the customer what they need to do and the action should naturally build to
an exciting climax. Remember to keep using emotive and descriptive language, especially
towards the end, and if you need to fudge a few dice rolls to keep it exciting, so be it.
• PRESENT THE PRODUCT
Once the game is over, take a moment to recap it with the customer. Did they enjoy it?
What were their favourite parts? Then show them the product, and ask if they want it.
The Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress box itself contains everything they need to
play games at home, but don’t stop there: our paint set lets them assemble and paint the
miniatures. There are also more Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress products coming
down the line. Invite them to come back to your store for the other in-store activities, such
as the Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress release day, painting lessons, a games night
or whatever else you have on offer.
WHAT’S NEXT
This brand-new game is designed to enable customers to play out their own unique adventures in an
alien Blackstone Fortress. Because of the way the game is designed, their experiences will be different
from other players.
As such, customers will be looking for more. There will be additional Warhammer Quest: Blackstone
Fortress releases in the future, starting with an exclusive mission in December’s issue of White Dwarf.
Futhermore, customers will be able to visit the Blackstone Fortress website
(www.warhammer40000.com/blackstone-fortress) to get regular updates on future releases,
How to Play videos and downloadable wallpapers.
