Design Features for KBL Horizontal Axially
Split casing LLC Pumps

• Impeller is to be directly located by threaded impeller nut or threaded sleeve.(User friendly design.
Facilitates easy axial alignment of Impeller)

• Pump Casing should have thru-bore design for ease of maintenance and interchangeability

• Stuffing box should be detachable from casing.

• Shaft threads must be protected from the liquid contact.(To reduce maintenance down time cost)

• Pump should have stuffing box bush to reduce the energy consumption and facilitates higher
suction lift with single mechanical seal.

• Bearing should be removed or fitted without removing upper half casing.(User friendly design. To
reduce maintenance down time.)

Design Features for KBL Horizontal Axially
Split casing LLC Pumps

• Mechanical seal should be removed or fitted without removing upper half casing.(User friendly
design. To reduce maintenance down time.)

• ‘L’ shape Serrated casing ring should be provided for energy conservation and also liquid
recirculation between casing and casing ring to be arrested.(To minimise hydraulic efficiency
deterioration and sustain efficiency over a period of time.)

• L10 Bearing life should be more than 50000 hrs for any type of design load.

• API type thrust row bearing should be used at driving end. (To enhance bearing life)

• Above 350 mm delivery size pump must be provided with double volute casing to minimize
the effect of radial load. (Reduce mechanical losses due to bearing loading and enhance
bearing life)

• Drinking water approved coating should be applied to the casing hydraulic portion. Coating
should be anti-corrosion, anti-erosion, cathodic action, and hydrophobic in nature.
coating should be preferably manufactured in India.

• Deflection under mechanical seal should be less than 0.06 mm to avoid any failure of
mechanical seal.

Design Features for KBL Horizontal Axially
Split casing LLC Pumps

• Impeller should be positively locked and key to pump shaft. (User friendly pump design)

• Casing ring clearances should be such that for any design load there should not be any wear

and tear due to deflection of the shaft.

• Self aligning Cartridge type mechanical seal should be fitted in the pump for ease of

maintenance. (To reduce down time cost)

• Rubber ‘V’ rings should be provided to avoid any liquid contamination in the bearing.
