The theme and concept of the project is bullying, this concept was influenced by the
history standard, 7.SP1.2 Classify a series of historical events and developments as examples of
change and/or continuity. I would like for students to examine various media examples from the
Civil Rights movement, while examining, students will compare the time in history to our use of
media today. Throughout their research students will identify any repetition, patterns and the
events in history, in which media was used to influence society in a harmful way. They will
search for the who, what, where, when and why. The concept of bullying will be reintroduced in
the project, as students gather enough information to apply to their final presentation, it is a
relatable theme as it is common for students in middle school to experience bullying. The project
aims to raise awareness within the community and the school environment.
Biography:
I am an 8th grade teacher at Marc T. Atkinson Middle School. I graduated from North
High School, received my associate degree at Glendale Community College and completed my
Middle School holds a special place in my heart as I was once a student and had an amazing
experience. The impact I had is something I would like to give back to the students now.
School Narrative:
The goal of the project is to raise awareness to bullying and to encourage those in the
school environment as well as those in the community to become more involved. Marc T
Atkinson sits in the Cartwright School District, the District’s goal is to have more parent
involvement, and through this project I would like it to be an opportunity for more inclusion.

Technology:
Utilizing the computers in class when help give students an opportunity, to research additional
information, create the PowerPoint, and apply their knowledge. I feel integrating technology
allows students research different ideas, perspectives and knowledge. It’s important that students
have the opportunity to engage with other perspectives while researching, it allows room for
students to develop their own ideas. I think the most important key to integrating technology is
that it provides access to students who may not have the sources outside of the classroom.
I enjoy this project, it allows students to present a interesting and reflective topic. This
can be shown to the district, parents and to the community as the students present their work with
Innovation
As the students engages with others in this project their collaboration was key in
completing the task of the assignment. The students utilized tools and applied their knowledge to
engage with others in successfully creating a presentation with all these tools applied.
Budget
The project that I would like my classroom to create is a simple, team building project. My goal
for the project is for students to utilize the information they learn during class and apply it to
their project as they work together with their peers to create a presentation. The knowledge will
be focused on the use of media during the civil rights movement, specifically the power of media
and its intentions. The students will conduct research and present their own empowering versions
of media in their presentation to combat what was presented historically. Refer to Table 1,
further in the document, to see costs and supplies required for the project.
The supplies needed for this assignment are not many nor too expensive. However, the
supplies are simple and helpful for the students to achieve success. I hope the school will provide
lab time and or a computer cart to supply the technology portion of the project. I personally do
mind inputting the costs of paper, notebooks, pens and pencils, it’s not too much out of pocket,
however if we were to get enough donations, we could use more money for more supplies
throughout the school years. The cost of the books and readings for the research portion for my
class is a bit costly, I choose the Donors Choose organization to raise money.
I decided to choose Donors Choose as the site I would display our class project on. I notice I
have an opportunity to present my project, specify the use of these materials, their importance
and even, update the donors on the results of my student’s work. I find this to be an amazing tool
to help classrooms excel and bring outside involvement in the classroom. It is very important for
students to succeed with their supplies however when others come together to help students on

Engage
To engage students at the beginning of a lesson, insert video, image,
quote, or another inspirational hook in this box.
The Goal: Reveal Pre-existing ideas, Beliefs, Preconceptions. Pose
questions that students will begin to answer in “Explore”
What do these images mean to you? How do they make you feel?
When seeing these images, what details do you notice? What is the
message the art portrays?
Explore
Curate a collection of resources (articles, videos, infographics, text
excerpts, etc.) for students to explore the topic.
The Goal: Students may be gathering data, sharing ideas, looking for
patterns, making conjectures, and developing further questions and
problem-solving considerations with the use of the information/activity

I would like to use this TedTalk to introduce the main goal of our PBL
project. Earlier, I engaged my students presenting them images they
may be unfamiliar with, while asking questions. Now, in this step, they
will be presented a broader idea that relates back to them. This is
where the driving question and goal, is “will i make a difference?’
Explain
Use this section to allow students to explain their thinking and move
towards demonstrating mastery of the lesson’s objective.
The Goal: Provide opportunity for students to compare ideas,
construct explanations, justify in terms of observations and/or data
collected in a collaborative large group environment.
Apply/Elaborate
Use this section for students to apply information from the previous
sections to new circumstances or elaborate on a particular aspect at a
deeper level usually coming in the form of “What if” questions.
The Goal: Allowing students the opportunity to discuss how their
thinking has changed or been solidified.
I would like the students to apply this experience and new knowledge,
into a project that can express their level of understanding. From the
question of “What if there was something we can do? How could we
send the message of our goal?”, he we can come up with ideas and
ways students can express how they’ll reach.
Reflect/Evaluate
Include an opportunity for face-to-face or digital reflection to guide
students along their learning progression, evaluating progress and
setting new goals for continued exploration.
The Goal: Refine initial answer to the “driving question” and reflect
on ideas, goals and beliefs concerning their progress.
