ALTERNATIVE HEALTH CARE MODALITIES

Name: ____________________________________ Q1W1

Section: _____________________________ Date: __________________

Brief Discussion of the lesson

The complementary and alternative modalities nowadays are often taken because
some individuals believe that traditional medical care is not enough to treat a particular health
condition.
Complementary medicine is availed and integrated with traditional medicine and it is
offered in some places in the country.
Complementary and alternative medicine has 4 major domains namely: biology-based
practices, energy medicine, manipulative and body-based practices, and mind and body.

Biology based practices- refers to the one that takes herbal medicine and availing special
diets and vitamins.

Energy medicine- are the one who uses magnetic fields or biofields in the belief that energy
fields may enter various points in the body.

Manipulative and body-based practices- refers to the bodily-kinesthetic in nature and

concerned with movement therapy.

Mind and body- are the one that uses mental exercises in the belief that the brain is central to
the health of an individual.

Naturopathy –refers to a wide range of natural practices including herbal medicine

acupuncture, acupressure, nutritional therapy, and ventosa cupping massage
therapy.

Quackery- a form of health fraud, is any advertisement, promotion, or sale of products and
services that have not been scientifically proven safe and effective (Meeks,
et al, 2011). It is being operated by a quack. A quack is an individual that
has little or no professional qualifications to practice medicine. He/She also
pretentiously uses meaningless medical jargon and relies on scare tactics,
paranoid accusations, and quick fixes.
