Description/ Antonio Mora, the Spanish artist who creates surreal imagery through digital
Interpretatio photography. The photo example taken is from one of many works included in his
n: series of Dream Portraits. In this series, volunteers submit a headshot of
themselves along with a short description of their personality and dreams, Mora
then finds a location that he feels best compliments each person based on his
interpolation. The common theme throughout his work is how the portrait and
landscapes in his photos seamlessly overlap to create a sense of emotion often
complimented by a black and white composition. The image used in the example
is from a subseries entitled, “Women in Nature”. The photo shows what appears to
be the lower face and neck of a woman which then fades into the scenery of a
mountain peak, composed in black and white.
Use in If I were to use this photo in class as an example, I would ask the students the
Teaching/Gu following:
iding  How do these photos capture emotion?
Questions:  What kind of feeling or emotion could you interpret from this photo in
particular?
 Does the lack of color indicate a deeper meaning? Why or why not?

If I were to use this image as an inspiration for an assignment, I would ask

students to choose a photo of themselves to then have printed out for the use in a
mixed media collage. The students will take their photo and intentionally select an
area to tear off a section of their face. Students will then use acrylic paint and
attempt to portray an aspect of their personality, much like the images
represented in Mora’s work.

Given a sheet of 18”x24” multimedia paper, students will effectively create a

collage using their own photographed images and acrylic paint to portray an
aspect of their personality.
