examples from the book.
The needs are nutrients, light, air, a place to grow, and
water.
2. Next, I will have created an anchor chart to show the
class the parts of a plant and their purpose. As I go, I
will be labeling the plant and telling the purpose of
that part.
The parts are petals, stem, roots, leaves, and seeds.
3. To further understanding, I will be doing two activities.
The first is to pair students into groups of two. Each
pair will be given a seed. One pair will give their seed
all the needs discussed. The next pairs will leave out
one need. For example, the next group will give their
plant all of the needs except water. One will not give
their seed any light and another will not give their seed
any soil. At the end of the week, we will see, as a
group, which seed has shown the most growth.
4. In the next activity, the same pairs will be drawing
their own flip books. One for the needs of a plant, the
other for parts of a plant.
I will provide an example as a guideline to help the
students when creating their own.
5. Next, the students will then be shown a presentation
where I discuss/group what plants are edible and
which are not, which plants are evergreen and which
are not, and, lastly, which plants are flowering and
which are not.
6. Lastly, as an overview for this entire lesson, the
students will be using an interactive white board to see
if they can label parts of a flowers, what plants need,
which are evergreen/deciduous, and some similar
activities. This will be done as a group and as a way to
measure understanding.
