These graphs give some information about the percentage of people in the UK who hold a full

driving license by age and gender.

First, the percentage of British men who hold a driving license has little to do with the times. In

contrast, the percentage of women holding a driver’s license in 2006 was much higher than that in

1975/76. On the other hands, men of all ages have a higher percentage of driving licenses than

Women's. Take British men and women aged 40 to 49 as an example. In 1975/76, the percentage of

men was about twice that of women. In 2006, the percentage of men was also about 10% higher.

Age has a great influence on the percentage. The percentages of men and women in the two

age groups 17-20 and greater than 70 who hold driving licenses are the least. On the contrary, in

2006, the percentage of men aged 21-69 exceeded 80%, and women in this age group also exceeded

60%.

Overall, the percentage of British males holding a formal driver’s license is higher than females.

Among men and women, the age group with the lowest percentage is 17-20.
