ENGL- 2010

Final Course Reflection

English has never been a subject that I am good at. For this English class, I felt as though

I had the opportunity to better create and learn by the projects and assignments we had for this

course. An example of this would be when we had the project to create an open discussion

about a topic that we wanted to talk about. The topic I picked was education. This is an

important topic for me because I am working towards a teaching degree in Art. One day I hope

to teach in a K-12 class art skill and help children find a fun direction in their lives.

In past English classes, I had to write papers and then rewrite papers. At Salt Lake

Community College, I have had the opportunity to try a new way of learning writing skills. I felt

as though I learn better with an environment that has different styles of learning. This helps

with people's creativity and basic learning skills. Education is very important to people who

have the want to become something. School is one of the first big steps for some people when

it comes to going into a career field. Classes like this one help us get to where we need to go.

In my big project for this class, I chose to talk about the curriculum in K-12 grades. This is

a topic that I truly believe needs to be updated and change for the better. In our education

system in Utah right now little things are missing in different subjects such as history. There is

only so much time for teachers to provide information to students that they must take out

things in the curriculum so the topics can be learned. This is not a good thing. There tend to be
chunks of history that end up missing in student's classes. There needs to be a better system

made so all children can have the same educational opportunity as all the students in Utah.

As I am learning and going to school myself, I am very open to learning new things. This

is how children are. They are so eager to learn and grow they need to be giving the best

education possible. I learned that I wanted to go into education about two years ago. This is not

because I never thought about education as an option in a career, but I did not know if I would

be the best teacher for all subjects. I have now found out that with hard work comes great

things. I now feel extremely confident in my decision to become an educator and I must give a

lot of gratitude to classes such as my English 2010. Classes like this help us see more out of the

box topics and learning opportunities.

In my conclusion of this course of English 2010, I can already see the benefits of this

class. From learning to write formal complaint letters and pushed outside of the box to then

create that letter into a full-grown project with a unique style to it. I feel more prepared to go

onto the next chapter in my education at Salt Lake Community College.
