One of the most famous


paintings done by Munch.

Actual name of the painting is


Love and Pain but everyone
knows it as the vampire.

The Scream

This Painting is my focal piece.


This painting really interests me
and I feel a lot of emotion went
into this piece.

Munchs most famous painting


was painted throughout the years
of 1893-1910

In 1994 one version of the


Scream was stolen from the
National Gallery.

In 2004 another version was


stolen. Both were eventually
recovered.

nude woman.

Was also stolen in 2004 in the


same heist that took the
Scream painting.

It was also recovered.

Uses Dark Colors

No real definite lines. Things are very blended.

Depicts dark and/or sad things.

Tends to Swirl colors. Ex: the sky of Scream

Very emotional work

Other Interesting Facts About Munch
  Munch originally attended a tech college where he excelled in
physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
 He was the son of a doctor.
 Father viewed art as an unholy trade and as a result did not
support him.
 In his early paintings days he experimented with Naturalism and
Impressionism.
 He is also famous for woodcuts that revived creativity in that
medium.
 Munch had a nervous breakdown in 1908.
 After the breakdown attended counseling, and after he completed
it his art work became much happier but lacked the emotion of his
earlier pieces.
 Hans Jaeger influenced Munch to become very withdrawn.
 Not a good relationship with father throughout life.
 Unlike most bohemians, Munch remained respectful of woman.

Munch’s Influences

1.  One influence of Munch’s was Julius Middlthum


who was his sculpting teacher in art school.

2.  Another teacher and influence was Christian Krogh


his painting teacher in art school.

3.  Hans Jaeger- local friend of Munch’s, local nihist


who believed suicide was ultimate way to freedom.

Munch is a part of the Expressionism art movement.
