Shown in size M on a 22” head for a snug fit

Size & Fit: Small (16”) (Medium (18”), Large (20”), XL (22”))
Depth: 9”
Worn with 2-4” of negative ease.

Recommended Yarn: Autumn and Indigo Suri Silk / Fog / 1 skein


Autumn and Indigo Classic DK / Rosewood / 2 skeins

* yarn is held triple throughout the entirety of the hat to create a chunky
weight fabric. Alternative: I used a little over a full skein of Classic DK for my
sample (size M). You could always use 1 full skein and use about 40-50g of
another color for the inside of the brim (first 3” or so of knitting)

Yardage: ~ 180 yards of chunky weight yarn

Suggested Needles: US 8 / 5 mm 16” circular needles or dpns


US 9 / 5.5mm 16” circular needles or dpns
Spare 16” circular needles of similar size for provisional CO

Other Notions: Similar size crochet hook, scrap yarn, scissors, darning needle, stitch marker

Gauge: 14 sts x 22 rounds = 4” stockinette in the round on smaller needles

Directions:

Brim:

Using smaller needles, crochet hook, and scrap yarn, CO 48 (60, 72, 84) sts using provisional
cast on method. See notes. Join to knit in the round being careful not to twist stitches. PM to
note BOR.

Knit in the round for approximately 6 inches.

Transfer provisionally cast on stitches to spare needle. Fold up cast on edge with WS together
and carefully join stitches as follows:

Knit together 1 stitch from the front needle, and 1 stitch from the back needle. Continue
around in this manner until all stitches have been knit off the back needle. You should now be
back to the BOR.

Body:

Change to larger needle.

Continue knitting in the round until piece measures 8” or approximately 1” shorter than
desired length.

Crown:

Round 1: *K1, k2tog, k1, ssk; repeat * until end of round (32 (40, 48, 56) sts)
Round 2: k all
Round 3: *k2tog, ssk ; repeat * until end of round (16 (20, 24, 28) sts)
Round 4: k all
Round 5: *k2tog ; repeat * until end of round (8 (10, 12, 14) sts)

Close:

Break yarn, leaving a 12” long tail to close hat. Thread yarn into darning needle, and
pull through remaining loops at crown. Close hole by pulling on thread. Weave in
ends and block as desired.
