Batan “The Filipino Children Youth in a Kaleidoscope World”

After I’ve watched the video presentation of Dr. Clarence Batan entitled as “The
Filipino Children Youth in a Kaleidoscope World” I’ve gathered some new ideas I learned
from him and some familiar ideas in his topic. The new ideas and information I learned from
him is the “kurunungang-sosyolohiyang pilipino” which means those who listens to hearsay
means they don’t have mind of them own. We should have our own opinion or knowledge
about things. I also learned the sociological imagination which means to look beyond things,
what we see is not what it seems but it has deeper meaning and deeper knowledge of it. We
live in a world with trap, means like being a prison of problems, we think that we have
individual problem but sometimes it is social issue, we must look at the connection of history
and biography to understand the world.

By watching the video presentation there are some important details and interesting
ideas and topic that I have learned which is first the highlighted idea I gathered, the
kaleidoscope world which represent as diversity in color, meaning to look beyond or to look
deeper on its meaning and beauty. Young people are always misinterpreted because we do
not have the perspective just like how a young people look at the world, we struggle looking
at them if they are different from us. We must learn to look at others perspective and to look
beyond, in order to understand things, to understand the growing up processes and to
understand that we cannot understand being young if we don’t have the ability or reference of
being a child. Everyone must learn to communicate in where the society they belong to, to
understand not judge others without knowing deeper or looking beyond.

While watching the video presentation of Dr. Batan, I have learned some familiar
ideas in his topic, which is PBE model or person-behaviour-environment also known as the
model, the triadic reciprocal causation by Albert Bandura. If I’m going to connect the video
presentation of Dr.Batan to PBE model of Albert Bandura, the P or the person represents us,
Filipinos wherein, we Filipinos makes judgement and prejudices, our behaviour shows at
Filipinos are judgmental and judging people easily that causes us to misinterpret them
because we are not on their perspective. The B or behaviour would represent the judgement
and prejudices, we Filipinos makes as we encounter strangers or new people around us. The
environment would represent as the Filipino children youth nowadays or todays generation
because to understand the young people we must also understand the references of being a
child or experiencing what they been through.

If I would be asked if there are some lecture of Dr. Clarence Batan that I have found
difficult to understand, I would probably say nothing. Because the way he teach the
kaleidoscope of Filipino children youth can easily understand and remarkable for me,
because he teaches in very creative way, he uses some examples that I will assure the youths
in this generation will understand, he teaches very creative, engaging, and relevance to this
generation, you will not get bored by his lecture. He also explains the lecture in a clear way
that will surely understandable, he taught the lecture with good and creative examples and
explain in with evidences and articles for us to understand deeper the lecture.
