Chapter 3

Research Methodology

This chapter present the research design, research setting, respondents of the study, research

instrument, data gathering procedure, sampling procedure, categorization of variables, and

statistical treatment of data.

Respondent of the study

There is a total of 32 pupils in grade 5 level. The researcher made use of all the grade 5

pupils as respondents of the study.

As shown in table 1, there were 12 or 38 % percent of male and 20 or 62 % percent

of female and total of 32 male and female respondents.

Research Setting
This study will be conducted in the respondents home at Barangay Lumbo . Located at the

municipality of Lagonglong. Barangay Lumbo, is about 1.2 kilometers from the poblacion. Its

population is almost 5000. This represented 11.60% of the total population of Lagonglong.

Barangay Lumbo has 2 public schools, elementary and secondary.

Research Design

This study used the descriptive type of research in this study. Descriptive is a research

design in which events are recorded, described, interpreted, analyzed and compared. Its objective

is to describe systematically a situation, condition or area of interest of actually and accurately.

Research Instrument

In the selection of the instruments in this study, the researcher ensured that the instrument

chosen were suitable and appropriate.

The questionnaire for the data with the researchers made floated to the respondent in Lumbo

Elementary School and divided into two parts:

Part 1. Deals with the profile of the respondents in terms in age, gender.

Part 2. Deals with the question that will lead to the findings and conclusion to find out the

Factors Affecting Academic Performance of the Learners During the Pandemic.

Data Gathering Procedure


Before the survey was conducted, the researcher gave a letter of approval to the school

President in Misamis Oriental Intitute of Science and Technology, Atty. Romulo P. Valmores,

asking permission to undertake a home survey to the BEEd IV students of her respected school

about the Common problem encountered by the Forth year Elementary students During

Pandemic. Secondly, the researcher also gave letter to the Dean of Education Mr. Floro C. Acedo

Ph.D to ask permission to distribute our survey questionnaires to the students..

Sampling Procedure

The sample population of this study will be all of BEEd IV students of MOIST. To

determine the sample size of BEEd IV students, the purposive sampling procedure will be used.

Categorization of Variables

The categorizations of variable included in this study are presented below:

The twenty items used for this part of the survey made use of categorization and scoring

below.

Validity and Reliability of the Instrument

The researcher did not validate the question because it was used by the previous research.

Statistical Treatment of the Data

The gathered data will be tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistical tools. For

simplicity of interpretation, the data will present in tables, showing the frequency of responses,

simple percentages and weighted mean.

To determine the hypothesis the researchers gathers all data. Then the researchers used

the T-test showing significant difference. The result may show if the hypothesis is null and void.
