Date and Shift: Tuesday, November 17, 2020, day shift (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

Report: At 8:00 AM, I clocked in and read the night log. In her log, staff member Sophia
Richards reported that 2 residents, Ramona and Dexter, had been yelling at each other
for most of the evening, after dinner. Sophia mentioned that the topic they were arguing
about was related to where they were in their relationship. Sophia advised that the day
workers should pay close attention to the couple, as their fight could become
aggressive, and possibly physical.

Minor Incident/Intervention
At 9:00 AM, Ramona and Dexter were watching t.v. and eating breakfast, when
Ramona started throwing her food at him. Dexter then vocalized that he was upset by
telling her to stop throwing food at him, but Ramona only seemed to get more
aggressive with her food throwing. At this point I intervened and told Dexter to continue
eating and then asked Ramona to take her plate to the dining room table and eat it
there, hoping that the space would help her calm down. After breakfast, I called Dexter
over and told him to take a seat beside me, across the table from Ramona. I then asked
them how the food throwing started, and Ramona confessed that she was still mad
about last night’s fight and feels really upset about the way they left off the argument.
Dexter then spoke up and told Ramona how he felt about their relationship, and how
happy he was. This seemed to make Ramona feel a lot better, as she then apologized
for throwing food at him. After telling them how happy I was that they were able to work
out the argument on their own, and for communicating effectively about their feelings, I
told them that they both should feel comfortable talking to me about any future issues
they may have. Dexter and Ramona both said that they would consider doing that in the
future if the need arises, and they then went to the living room to continue watching their
t.v. show together.

Recommendation
Going forward I think it would be best to monitor the couple’s behavior towards each
other, and make sure that communication between them is clear and void of any
negative connotations.
Conclusion
The rest of my shift was uneventful.

Off Shift: Lucas arrived for the 4:00 PM shift, and I clocked out.
