TATA MUMBAI MARATHON 2020 PHILANTHROPY STRUCTURE
UWM ensures that the platform is an equal and level playing field for all
participating NGOs and remains cause neutral. Since there are limited
running spots at the TMM, the fundraising opportunities against these
spots are distributed evenly between the NGOs.
Philanthropy Platform Key Features
• 100% of the funds raised online on fundraiser and NGO pages are
disbursed fully to the NGO as UWM absorbs the payment gateway
charges. This makes it one of the most cost effective fundraising
platform for NGOs.
• The platform is designed to leverage key fundraising opportunities
amongst interested runners, companies and fundraisers.
• Almost 25% of all running slots at the event are reserved for charity,
which are equitably divided amongst the participating NGOs for raising
funds for their causes.
2
NGO REGISTRATION
Till date, 589 NGOs have participated over the last 16 editions of the Mumbai
Marathon, collectively raising INR 271 crore. The TMM philanthropy platform
allows participating NGOs to raise funds through six different ways – NGO

Jan, '2 All NGOs are required to complete the statutory and financial due diligence
process in order to be eligible to register with UWM for the TMM. NGOs who
participated in TMM 2019 can skip step 1 and step 2, if there is no change.
Please Note:
- Individuals can undertake crowdfunding for TMM 2020 only through UWM and no other
crowdfunding platform. NGOs of fundraisers using other platforms will be considered defaulting
and will be blacklisted.

SIX WAYS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR AN NGO
At the TMM, there are six ways for an NGO to raise funds. On registration, each NGO is provided a
customizable page on the UWM website and is eligible to block a certain number of running slots at
TMM 2020, called ‘charity bibs’, which can be used to raise donations. Supporters of an NGO, both
individual fundraisers and corporates, will also have customisable online pages through which funds
can be raised for the NGO. Runners at the event can also choose to upgrade their running bib number
by making a fixed donation to any NGO.

Running slots (bibs) have been reserved by the Event Promoter to help NGOs who register for the TMM
2020, to raise funds. These bibs are unique as they can be used to register a participant even after
general registrations are closed and are available against a donation toward the NGOs. The intent is to
provide a means for NGOs to build new relationships and raise funds for their causes.

4. Individual Fundraising
Any individual (who may or may not be running at the TMM) can support an NGO by creating a
fundraising page on the UWM website and reaching out to friends, family and peers for donations. 100%
of all funds donated online on these fundraising pages are disbursed to the beneficiary NGO. The pages
contain various features and help the fundraiser to raise funds efficiently:
a. Change Runners: Fundraisers who raise more than INR 1.5 lakh are acknowledged as Change Runners
at the TMM. There are 8 individual fundraising levels, the details of which can be found on Page 20.
b. Young Leaders: Fundraisers below the age of 21 years as on 19th January, 2020 fall under this category.

Promoter.

timing certificate at the time of registration are given in the table below:
15 5 Runners
25 8 Runners
40 15 Runners
To check if the applicant is eligible, please refer to the Corporate Philanthropy Structure which can be
found in the ‘Downloads’ section of the UWM website
Note:
• A corporate can opt for any number of teams of the above mentioned team sizes.
• UWM does not validate or verify the timing certificates. Therefore, it is the sole responsibility of the
corporate to ensure that the timed bibs are allotted to runners who have a valid timing certificate.
Registration Process
Form submission along with cheque/s as per selected option:
• Download the corporate team registration form from the ‘Downloads’ section of the UWM website.
• Fill and print the completed form and duly attest it (sign and company seal). Please ensure to fill in
all details as required in the form.
• Make an upfront, non-refundable contribution of the registration amount as a cheque(s)/bank transfer
by the two options mentioned in the table on the next page.
15
CORPORATE TEAM REGISTRATION
Registration options:
* Companies contributing from their CSR budget and wishing the donation to be in accordance with the CSR Bill, which mandates
contributions to be made directly to projects or programmes to be eligible as per the company’s CSR policy.
Please Note:
• As per the circular dated June 18, 2014 issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, one off events such
as a marathon would not qualify as CSR expenditure for the purposes of Section 135 of Companies Act,
2013. The corporate donor shall be solely responsible and liable for compliance in relation to the
amounts being donated by the corporate donor to UWM for participation in the TMM (including any
amount paid as the event registration fees that is used for purchase of bibs or towards administrative
expenses) with provisions relating to corporate social responsibility under the Companies Act, 2013 and
the rules made thereunder (including but not limited to Section 135 of Companies Act, 2013).
• All contributions to United Way Mumbai irrespective of option chosen are eligible for 80G tax exemption
and the receipt will be sent via email.
• Depending on the option chosen, UWM will either disburse the funds to the NGO or handover the split
cheque to the NGO
• The corporate contribution does not include event participation fees of the runners. The applicable
event fee has to be paid separately after team submission to Procam International Pvt. Ltd. within 30
days of the invoice date or latest by Monday, 30th December, 2019, whichever is earlier.
• Corporate registration form & cheque/s (both single and split cheques) need to be sent to UWM. UWM
will hand over the split cheque to the NGO after verifying the same. In case of direct bank transfers,
the recipient NGO would need to share the bank statement to verify receipt of the donation. Unless
the verification of split donation being received by the supporting NGO is complete, team allocation to
the corporate will not be done
• If the corporate is not registered under the Indian Companies Act, 1956 and is a 100% subsidiary of a
foreign company, then it falls under FCRA and hence the beneficiary NGO must have FCRA registration.
The corporate would also be required to provide an authorised declaration on company letterhead
confirming the same for UWM to proceed with the registration process.
• Confirmed corporate runners can also choose to upgrade their bib number to a custom number of their
choice against a fixed donation to any registered NGO as explained in the ‘special number’ section on
page 24.
16
CORPORATE TEAM SUBMISSION

account and assign runners to teams before submitting them. The deadline for team submission
is 10th December, 2019. Please note, once the company representative submits the team/s, they will not
be able to access it or make any further changes.

promoters based on the race categories selected by the employees. The corporate will have one month to
make the payment from the date of the invoice being generated or time till 30th December, 2019,
whichever is earlier. Unless the race fee is received by the Event Promoter, the corporate runners will not
receive their confirmation of participation at the TMM 2020. In such a case the donation paid to the
chosen NGO/s and/or UWM cannot be refunded.
5. Once the payment is made by the corporate, the employees will receive confirmation within 15 working days.

Runners have a choice of selecting their own 6-digit number against a fixed donation of INR 5,000 to
