Project Evaluation and Viva Voce Examination, July2020
Guidelines
1. In view of the grave situation prevailing in the country due to the Covid Pandemic, M.G.University has
decided to conduct the Viva Voce and Project Evaluation of Fourth Semester M.A.English Examination
internally by the respective departments, within the college.
2. Due to the threat of Covid contagion, it is advisable to publish a time schedule beforehand, in order to
avoid overcrowding and to ensure the smooth conduct of the project evaluation and the General and
Project Viva.
3. Separate Grades are to be awarded for the Project Viva and the General Viva. The method of calculation
and award of marks is shown in the document attached.
4. Care should be taken to maintain an attendance sheet with the name, register number and signature of
students who appear for the Viva Voce Examination; a copy of which has to be submitted to the
Chairperson along with the mark list. A template of the attendance sheet is also attached herewith.
5. The Viva Board shall comprise of the Head of the Department and another permanent faculty member
deputed by the Head.The original mark list along with a copy and the duly filled attendance sheet should
be sent by registered post to the Chairperson before 30July 2020. A duplicate mark list and copy of the
attendance sheet shall be retained as a record by the department concerned.
6. The Viva-Voce and Project Evaluation can be conducted according to the personal convenience of the
examiners and the candidates of each institution between 17& 24 July 2020.
7. Those students who are unable to attend Viva-Voce exam in their respective colleges should obtain prior
special sanction from the university to attend the exam online. The recording of such online Viva-Voce
examinations should be kept in the college, as per the university order No.3037/EA/2020 MGU, dated
06/07/2020.
8. A Minimum of ‘C’ Grade should be awarded to all those who appear for the Viva -Voce, both for the
Project and Course Viva.
9. Since the Viva -Voce is conducted internally, contrary to the usual accepted practice, the examiners
should ensure a fair distribution of marks to all candidates without any prejudice or partiality.

Grading

1. Total Weight for Project and Project Viva – 6

Dissertation carries 5 weight. (content-3 and methodology -2.)
Project Viva-1 weight
2. Illustration:
A candidate scoring 2.8 for content is awarded 8.4 (2.8x3=8.4)
2.6 for methodology is awarded 5.2 (2.6x2=5.2)
3.2 for project viva is awarded 3.2 (3.2x1=3.2)

The candidate’s total grade point is 8.4 + 5.2 + 3.2 = 16.8

The Grade Point Average(GPA) is 16.8/6 = 2.8, and the Grade is B

1.5 - 2.49 (C Grade)

2.5 - 3.49 ( B Grade)
3.5 - 4 ( A Grade)
3. General Viva
General Viva carries 1 weight and it should be entered separately on the score sheet.
