PREFACE
This Block Statistical Hand book of the Year 2019-20 presents statistical
data in the form of tables and charts for a meaningful study on various Socio Economic
aspects. Data incorporated in this handbook were collected from various offices of state
and Central government, public Sector undertaking and Private institutions. I thanks to
the State and Central Government offices and Local Bodies, for their co-operation in
furnishing relevant data / information on time in preparation of the Hand book.
I Would like to express my sincere thanks to Thiru. V.Malairaj, Regional Joint
Director of Statistics , Madurai for constanly reviewing the progress of this book and
completing with valuable guidance.
I deeply indebted Thiru. K.Jayasankar, Deputy Director of Statistics,
Pudukkottai who initiated this action and providing all necessary Technical Support and
resources to carry out the task.
I record my sincere thanks to Thiru,V.M.Dharmalingam Assistant Director

SALIENT FEATURE OF THE BLOCK
Ponnamaravathy Block of Pudukkottai District lies in “78.5” in Longitude (East)
and “10.5” in Latitude in North. The Government of India, in exercise of the powers
conferred under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948, conducting the population census
across the country once in a decade and releasing the results in different phases.
Accordingly, the Government of India has conducted the population census in the year 2011
and released the final results, up to the village level, in different classification.

An attempt is made in this chapter to present the results of the population census,
2011 conducted in Ponnamaravathy Block. Consequently, the Total Geographical area of
the block is 339.99 Sq. Km., with the Population of 108479 (2011 Census) comprising of
the three Firkas with 49 Revenue Villages, One Town Panchayat, 42 Villages Panchayat.
Major part of the total Population are engaged in Agriculture the crop coverage area is
3487 Hect. The major crops are Paddy, Groundnut and Pulses. There are 70 major and
814 minor tanks in this block. The major source of Irrigation’s also with the help of the
tanks. One Government Hospital and 4 Primary Health centres and 20 Health Sub-
Centres are providing medical facilities to the people.

Thenimalai Murugan Temple, Vendhanpatti SivanTemple,


Thirukalampur-Kathaleeswarar Temple, Ponnamaravathy-Rajendra Choleeswaram
Temple Konnaiyur Mariyamman and Ammankuruchi Temples are famous in this
block.
