Use this procedure to troubleshoot a problem with the charging system. Also, use this procedure if one of
the following event codes is active or logged.

J1939 Code and Description Comments
167-0 The voltage from the alternator charging system has fallen below the

High - most severe (3) The code is logged.
167-1 The voltage from the alternator charging system has fallen below the

167-15 The voltage from the alternator charging system has risen above the

High - least severe (1) The code is logged.
167-17 The voltage from the alternator charging system has fallen below the
Charging System Potential : trip point for the programmed delay time.
Low - least severe (1) The code is logged.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician Repair: Troubleshoot any associated codes before
