In about 400 words, discuss the Muslim perspective on the following issues:

 Prejudice and Discrimination

 Child and Spousal Abuse
 Substance abuse

Islam is known to be one of the largest religions in the world and the Caribbean. This religion
can be traced back to the 7th century in Saudia Arabia where the Prophet Mohammed was
introduced to the teachings of Islam after a spiritual being visited him. Muslims believe and
worships one God whom they call Allah and their source of authority is The Qu’ran. The Qu’ran
means ‘that which is recited or read’ when translated to English and is believed to hold the words
of Allah which was communicated to Mohammed. The scriptures contain the laws of the land,
guidelines for moral behavior and social problems, the history of the religion and stories of past
nations, explanations for the world, and humankind. Prejudice and discrimination are not
accepted according to the scriptures of Islam as Prejudice means to judge something before you
get to know it, and discrimination is when you put your judgment into action. The Qu’ran says
‘Mankind, we created you from a single pair of a male and a female, and made you into tribes
and nations that you may know each other.’ (Qur’an, surah 49:13) as the Hadith says ‘Allah does
not look upon your outward appearance; he looks upon your hearts and your deeds.’ (Hadith).
following the sources of authority; Muslims generally believe that all humans are created by
Allah and all creation of Allah must be treated fairly. Domestic abuse is any sort of mistreatment
found in the home between spouses and children. Islam's position on domestic violence comes
directly from the Qu’ran and they act accordingly; the Qu’ran teaches that husbands should
protect their wife and the woman should obey the husband; it also states that if the woman
misbehaves she should be disciplined in a kind manner or light correction and that wives should
be treated with kindness. As for children, the Qu’ran forbids the abuse of children in any way,
states that they should be treated fairly, and forbids parents from killing their children. Islam's
view on child and spousal abuse is that none is accepted when in the Muslim faith. Substance
abuse is when someone intakes dangerous drugs and materials that can cause serious harm to the
human body; the Quran states that these dangerous items were created by the devil to distract
Muslims from worshipping and it is his way of creating problems in Muslims lives. As a result of
the addiction, the Muslim relationship with Allah can be ruined and the addicted soul will be lost
therefore intoxicants are banned from the Islamic communities and societies.
In conclusion, Islam does not support Prejudice and discrimination, child and spousal abuse, and
substance abuse since their sources of authority commands them to live in a certain way and
gives them an obvious sense of moral behavior. It is also imperative that they follow the laws of
Islam to earn a promised life after death or follow the consequences of sin.
