ABSTRACT
Today as we can see our building industry is going GREEN but what exactly is going GREEN.
So let go brief in this direction.
Most buildings in India guzzle energy directly impacting natural resources. Residential,
commercial and institutional buildings together consumed 31% of global energy and emitted
1900 mega tones. By 2050, this would rise to 38% and 3800 mega tones. Even more worrying is
the fact buildings consume 50 per cent of the world’s energy – and here lies the genesis of the
green building concept.
Considering modern techniques and trends in green building we have designed a model of ECO-
HOUSE which uses all the parameters of ideal modern green building in one integrated house.
This eco-house uses maximum non-conventional energy resources and provide a green and
healthy environment for its occupants.
ECO-HOUSE IS A ECO-SYSTEM IN ITSELF . it uses minimum energy with maximum
efficiency. Right from the electricity produced from solar panels to methane produced from bio-
waste .
ECO-HOUSE has been constructed by using fly-ash cement, integrity blocks and clay blocks
which act as a insulator and provides ventilation to the house, this eco-house has bamboo
flooring which is a eco friendly renewable material. The doors made from wheat-straw &
composite wood and windows provided with heat mirror are used.
INTRODUCTION
Green building is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings use resources (energy,
water, and materials) while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the
building's lifecycle, through better sitting, design, construction, operation, maintenance and removal.
Green Buildings are the new trend in construction industry which particulates the use of
environment friendly materials, efficient use of renewable resources against non-renewable ones
and using recycled and reusable materials in construction. Green methodology emphasizes on
taking advantage of renewable resources, e.g., using sunlight through passive solar, active solar,
and photovoltaic techniques and using plants and trees through green roofs, rain gardens, and for
reduction of rainwater run-off. Also techniques, such as using packed gravel for parking lots
instead of concrete or asphalt to enhance replenishment of ground water, are used as well.
Advantages of green building:-
GREEN MATERIALS
Ideal Green materials are the materials whose resources are available locally.
So that the energy used to produce, transport, and compile conventional materials is saved
1. INTEGRITY BLOCK
Integrity Block is a compacted-earth block used as
a cost-competitive replacement for concrete
masonry units (CMUs). Made from a proprietary
soil mix that includes up to 60% pre-consumer
recycled content (byproduct from mining or
quarrying), Integrity Block uses 40% less energy to
produce .The portland cement content is
approximately half that of standard block.
2. ZERO-VOC PAINTS
Heat mirror window panel reflects external radiated heat, reduces direct heat from sun
and reflects internal radiated heat.
EXPLAINATION OF ECO-HOUSE
GROUND FLOOR
Here we can see all the ground surface is covered by vegetation. where we can plant vegetables
Which is a food resource for the occupants.
Also around the vegetation plantation is done. Which makes the whole ground level green,
attractive and beautiful. There is a roof like structure with heat mirror window panels which
provides light to the basement floor 1 in the day time. Solar water heaters, Solar panels,
residential wind turbines are provided at the ground level.
Advantages
Renewable energy and fuel cells
2. A roof mounted micro wind turbine that can generate enough energy
to turn your electric meter backwards. Reasonably priced it is small
enough to be used in urban areas yet powerful enough to lower electric
bills 25%-50%, or more.
Manufacturer / Freetricity
BASEMENT FLOOR I:
It is totally provided for residential purpose. During the day time it receives ample of light from
the panels provided at the top under normal whether condition. And during night time LED is
used for lighting purpose.
A device named as food waste disposer is provided below the kitchen basin, its function is to
crush all the food waste and these crushed food waste is then sent to bio-waste plant through
pipe. The human waste from W/C and the waste of bathroom and basin are also sent to the bio-
waste plant through pipe. A alternative source for cooking ‘pellet stove’ is also provided.
PELLET STOVE
As the name suggests, pellet stoves burn "pellets." These actually are
recycled sawdust, wood shavings, corn, walnut and peanut shells, and
similar biomass wastes that are ground up, compressed, and extruded.
Compared with EPA-certified wood stoves that give off about 5 grams of
particulates per hour, pellet stoves have very low particulate emissions,
some far less than 1 gram per hour. Combustion efficiency is a measure of
how much of a fuel is converted to energy by an appliance. Pellet stoves
offer 75 percent to 90 percent overall efficiency. In India, British petroleum
has launched a successful pellet stove named as ‘OORJA’
It is used for parking purpose. A bio-waste plant and the power unit room is also provided on this
floor.
Bio-waste plant
The bio-waste plant process all the human waste, waste water, food waste and produce methane
gas and sludge. The methane gas is send to the kitchen through pipe line for cooking purpose and
the solid sludge can be used as manure for the vegetation, also the waste water can be used for
irrigation purpose in the above vegetation.
The power unit works as a power regulator or the control unit of electricity which stores electric
energy from solar panels and wind plant and provides electricity for day to day activities
Power Unit
Power unit is a unit where all the electricity
produced by all energy resources is stored and
then supplied to the house. Here there is a
arrangement such that under normal condition
all the required electricity is supplied by
power unit in case of any breakdown the main
supply mode is activated. As described in the
diagram above.
CONCLUSION:
The main motto behind this presentation is to motivate more and more implementation of the
green techniques in modern buildings, so proper planning of the building with efficient use of
available resources is required. As we know day by day population is increasing & there is
scarcity of resources, therefore to meet the requirement of growing population a proper
planning is to be undertaken for fulfilling the demand in an eco friendly manner.
