1. Removal of the Airframe−Mounted Oil−Tank Drain Valve

A. Reference Information

B. Tools and Equipment

REFERENCE DESIGNATION

Commercially Available Container, Oil (9 US quarts (8.52 L))

NOTE: Refer to the BD−700 ILLUSTRATED TOOL AND EQUIPMENT MANUAL to


make sure that you use the correct equipment configuration.

C. Job Set−Up

(1) Obey all the electrical/electronic safety precautions (TASK 24−00−00−910−801).

(2) In the flight compartment, on the EMS CDU, close the circuit breakers that follow
(TASK 24−00−00−863−801):

(3) Open the access door that follows:

ACCESS DESIGNATION

311BB Door, Aft Equipment Compartment

(4) Drain the airframe−mounted oil tank (TASK 79−12−01−680−801).

NOTE: Do the above procedure only to the point where the airframe−mounted oil
tank is fully drained, then continue with the procedure that follows.

D. Procedure

Refer to Figure 401.

(1) Remove the lockwire (SPM−MM 20−50−00−000−801).

(2) Slowly remove the drain valve (2).

(3) Discard the packing (3).

(4) Put a protective cover on the open port of the airframe−mounted oil tank (1).

D. Parts

E. Job Set−Up

(1) Make sure that the aircraft is in the same configuration as in the removal task.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean with no corrosion, paint,
grease, or preservation fluids.

F. Procedure

Refer to Figure 401.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE SILICONE OR A SILICONE-BASED LUBRICANT.


SILICONE MAKES FOAM WHEN MIXED WITH ENGINE OIL. THIS
CAUSES CONTAMINATION OF THE OIL SYSTEMS WHICH CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINES AND/OR THE APU.

(1) Lubricate the packing (3) with lubricating oil and install it on the drain valve (2).

(2) Install the drain valve (2).

(3) Torque the drain valve (2) from 28.8 to 106 lbf in (3.26 to 11.97 Nm)
(SPM−MM 20−22−00−910−801).

(4) Safety the drain valve (2) with lockwire (SPM−MM 20−50−00−400−801).

(5) In the flight compartment, on the EMS CDU, set the circuit breakers that follow to IN
(TASK 24−00−00−863−802):

(6) Do the servicing of the oil supply at the airframe−mounted oil tank
(TASK 12−14−05−612−801).

G. Close Out

(1) Remove all tools, equipment, and unwanted materials from the work area.

(2) Close the access door that follows:
