"I have over a period of time been on the lookout for a package which would
allow me to create Scripts for use in AutoCAD. I have tried and looked at a
variety of packages. But this has them all beat hands down. For me an
application should work almost intuitively. That is, it should not require a lot of
digging in order to get it up and running. The various screens are clear and
easy to comprehend. Hurricane works smoothly and easily.

When I have run into a snag (it's usually my fault) Bill has been super fast in
helping me find where the problem was (translation: where I messed up). His
readiness to update the package to give users what they want is nothing short
of amazing as is the speed with which he incorporates suggestions from users.
This is especially impressive when you look at other applications and how hard
it is to get help or make suggestions and have them ignored or they might
show up in a couple of months. The best money I have ever invested
(except for a Tech Mutual I bought a couple of years ago , but that's another
story). Thanks again!".

"Hurricane has saved Flair Corporation hundreds of man-hours and $$$
on drawing changes. Recently, due to economic circumstances, our company
closed a sister facility and we inherited all of their engineering documents to
include AutoCAD drawings. I am an avid scriptwriter for generating little scripts
from 1 to 10 drawings. When we absorbed our sister facility the number of
drawings ranged in the thousands… I didn't know where to turn or how to start
to generate a script to embellish thousands of cad files. So, I head toward the
Internet and do some soul searching for a miracle… I find HURRICANE,
download the trial version, run a script and the day plus hundreds more days
are saved by your software! I quickly purchased your software license (NO
BRAINER). Thanks for HURRICANE and your customer support, which I
consider to be great if not the best!".

AutoCAD Command line switches

You can use command line switches to specify certain options when AutoCAD starts.
You can set these switches in Hurricanes Options menu. (Or you can leave them blank)

14
For example, AutoCAD can run a script, start with a specified template drawing, and
display a specified view when a drawing is opened. With command line switches, you
can also set up several AutoCAD icons on your Desktop, each with different start-up
options.
Valid switches are listed in the following table.

Template file Creates a new drawing based on a template or

/t
name prototype drawing. A DWT file type is assumed.

Specifies the path for the hardware configuration file

that you want to use. You can specify a directory or a
particular file. A CFG file type is assumed. If you don't
Configuration
/c set the /c switch, AutoCAD searches the executable
folder
directory and uses the ACADCFGW or ACADCFG
environment variable as a way to define the
configuration file and directory location.

Designates a particular view of the drawing for

/v View name
display at startup of AutoCAD.

Designates support folders other than the current

folder. Support files include text fonts, menus,
AutoLISP files, linetypes, and hatch patterns. The
/s Support folders
maximum number of folders you can specify in the
path is 15. Each folder name is delimited by
semicolons.

Restores the default system pointing device. It

Default system
creates a new configuration file (acad2002.cfg) and
/r pointing
renames the previous acad2002.cfg file to
device
acad2002.bak.

/
No AutoCAD Starts AutoCAD without first displaying the logo
nolog
logo screen screen.
o

Specifies a user-defined registry profile for starting

AutoCAD. The selected profile is in effect only for the
current session of AutoCAD, unless you make another
User-defined profile current in the Options dialog box during that
registry profile session.
/p
for starting You create or import Profiles on the Profiles tab in the
AutoCAD Options dialog box. With the /p switch, you can only
specify those profiles that are listed in the Options
dialog box. If the profile does not exist, AutoCAD uses
the current profile.
The syntax for using command line switches is:
"drive:pathname\acad.exe" ["drawing name"] [/switch "name"]

15
Note: When entering switches into the Hurricane options screen, you don't need to
specify the AutoCAD Executable or Drawing Name.
When using a switch option, you must follow the switch with a space and then the name
of a file, path, or view within quotation marks.
AutoCAD resolves the environment settings in the following way:
• If you use a command line switch to specify an environment
setting, the command line switch overrides the settings specified in either
the Options dialog box or the environment variable.
• If a command line switch is not set, the corresponding value set in
the Options dialog box is used.
• If neither a command line switch nor an Options value is set, the
environment variable value is used.
Note: Command line switches and environment variables override Options values for
the current session only. They do not alter the system registry.

"I frequently use Hurricane to batch plot our drawings. I work for an
engineering firm that does a lot of hospitals and universities. It is normal for us
to have jobs with 200 drawings in a set. I can plot these drawings in a
fraction of the time it would take to do it manually. The AutoCAD batch
plot utility does not work for us with the way are drawings are set up.I
had a project that would have taken me more than four hours to plot out
manually and Hurricane was able to run through it in about one half of an hour.
That let the design team work for another three hours. Believe me, I was a
hero that day. I also send our drawings out electronically on a regular basis. I
am able to bind all xref's with hurricane before I send them out so that I have
more control on quality.".
