PRACTICAL HANDOUT

COURSE GLS210– CADASTRAL SURVEYING II

TITLE Re-survey and Displacement of Boundary Marks
DURATION 14 Weeks
TASKS  To carry out re-survey of the specified land parcel and perform
boundary marks refixation exercise.

OBJECTIVES  To further impart knowledge in cadastral surveying procedures

as practiced in the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia
(DSMM) with an emphasis in e-cadastral implementation.

EXPECTED  Students should be able to understand the concept of old DCDB

(PUDK) and NDCDB in the e-cadastral implementation.
OUTCOMES
 Students should be able to organize field survey team during
fieldwork
 Able to perform Refixation of boundary mark according to
JUPEM procedures (PKUP 2002 & PKUP 2010).

INSTRUMENTS GNSS receivers, Total station, tripods, prisms, prismatic compass, mini
prism, etc.

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Instrument Calibration

 Differential field test shall be carried out at the start of every
new job
 Daily test shall be conducted before new measurement is made
on each day

2. Datum and Azimuth Control

 Shall be based on a proper datum as specified in the DSMM
regulation 2009
 Establish Two (2) CRM points by GNSS methods ( the Last task-
pick 3 CRM)

3. Data Collection as specified in the DSMM 2009 regulations

 Field data collection can be done by Traverse, Radiation,
Intersection, Resection, and GNSS.
 GNSS receiver or total station or combination of them can be
used in this task.
 If GNSS receiver is to be used, student can select appropriate
observation techniques which include static, rapid static, RTK or
network RTK (MyRTKNet).
 If EDM/Total station is to be used, the requirement of
differential field test (OFT) and daily test (DT) shall be observed.
Bearings and distances shall be observed in both faces of the
instrument.

 Connection at least to Three (3) NDCDB points (must prove in
good condition)
 All missing and out-of-position boundary marks are to be
replaced and re-fixed respectively.

4. Data Processing
 Two methods will apply which is a conventional method (PKUP
2002) and e-cadaster (PKUP2009).
 For conventional method, calculation of final bearing and
distance (Field Book), calculation of datum, calculation of base
line, third marks, and interior angle, determination of fixed BKL
or known point and comparison between boundaries for
determine the boundary displacement, determination of bearing
factor and distance factor, adjusted lot, and offset for purposes
of refixation. Calculation volume (JK), area or lot comparison.
 In the e-cadaster method, generation of 16 Survey ASCII Files
using selected e-cadaster software (optional and if possible).
 Adjustment using Least Square Adjustment (LSA)
 A least square adjustment method should be used to determine
whether the survey data are within the acceptable range of limit
(upper-bound or lower-bound).
 Upper-bound data shall be rejected and require field
rectification/ correction.
 Lower-bound data will be accepted for further quality checking
(e-QC).

5. Quality Checking ( e-QC)

• To verify and check the surveyed 16 ASCII files.
• Perform technical checking and boundary encroachment.
• Perform checking of out-of-position boundary mark

6. Certified Plan (CP)

 Perform certified plan drawing using AutoCAD facility
 Plan shall be drawn according to DSMM’s specification

OUTPUTS  Survey report is to be prepared by group

 Field book.
 Solar observation form.
 16 ASCII Files.
 Chi-square report.
 Adjusted coordinates report.
 Adjusted distance and distance residual report.
 Adjusted bearings and bearings residual report.
 Standard deviation and error ellipse report.
 Station comparison -report.
 Report shall be prepared according to the given format (see
appendix)
 Report shall be submitted before the end of week 14 (before study
week) for assessment

ASSESSMENTS  Field Assessments ( commitment, leadership, attendances)

(30 marks)  Individual Report (hand writing).
