Concept Notes & Examples

When the noun is singular, the s form of the verb is used. It means the letter s is added to the
base form of the verb.
For example: ride – rides; run – runs

 My sister rides a bike every day. SISTER = SINGULAR SUBJECT / RIDES = VERB

 A dog runs in the ground. DOG = SINGULAR SUBJECT / RUNS = VERB

When the noun is plural, the base form of the verb is used. This means that the verb has NO
–s.
For example:
 Two sisters ride on a bike every day. SISTERS = PLURAL SUBJECT

 The dogs run on the playground. DOGS = PLURAL SUBJECT
