SEAT COMFORT ENGINEER


LOCATION: METRO-FARMINGTON HILLS, MI

SPECIFIC KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

We are seeking a unique Seat Comfort Engineer to join our advanced product development team.
This position will require leadership to incorporate Comfort/ Human Factors practices into our
design process. It will also require an individual who is comfortable working on issues ranging
from ergonomic issues to cognitive considerations to usability studies. This person will be
determining the end user experience of our products.
Applicant will be responsible for seat comfort development, frame/structure development, foam
and trim development and identifying issues with occupant package, control ergonomics, also
involving foam, trim and plus padding, understanding the Physical, Anthropometric and Bio
mechanical factors which determine the optimum contour and firmness. Foam and trim physical
properties combined with robust subjective processes will be used to set targets for program
teams. As well as target setting, responsibilities will include measurement and analysis of test data
and subjective clinic or non clinic data. Frame, suspension, and other seat hardware related items
will need to be assessed on their suitability with respect to comfort and an understanding of their
effects on vibration performance. Minimum 7 - 10 yrs experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop Human Factors design guidelines


• Support our Craftsmanship process by providing improvement actions
• Senior Comfort/ Human Factors Expert, working with our Development Team
• Provide Comfort/ Human Factors technical leadership to our Development process
• Identify design constraints in the development of products and verify risk items
• Identify new product opportunities related to Human Factors
• Maintain communication plan with our counterparts in the US and Korea
• Establish our Comfort Lab and their tools/ processes
• Develop a methodology of identifying characteristics that correlate with user expectations
• Develop and execute test requirements for our new products

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Ability to identify Human Factors assessment tools to support our Development process
• Ability to create usability tools to identify optimal mechanisms controls
• Creation of a Functional and Task Analysis with outcomes of constraints and
recommendations for control methods, and functional operation
• Experience with analysis in a fast paced environment
• Design of usability tests for visual/manual/auditory interfaces including ergonomic
applications
• Strong statistical background to identify significant contributing factors to develop transfer
functions of product performance
• CMM Laser Scanning, JASO Testing, Pressure Mapping, HPOINT
• SAE Procedures J826, J1100, J287
• Basic concepts of vehicle development and familiarity working with 3Data
• This position will require limited travel
