POLICY AND PROCEDURES FOR MRS.

McKIM’S CLASSES
1. GRADE REPORTS - can be accessed at SVHS Internet site at home or at school.
Students and parents will be given a password to use. Get it at the library after
signing a “use agreement”. Signed grade reports are required at midterm and term.

2. STUDY HELPS/GUIDES -
 Will be provided for assessment tests several days early.
 Studying is required and expected.
 Help can be arranged for after school until 4:00 or during Home Room Study Hall.
 Students can also attend Thursday Science Study Hall, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
 Activity buses are provided at 4:30 on Tuesday and Thursday.

3. TESTS -
 Any test not taken on the scheduled date will cause a 10 Pt. cut!
 STAYING HOME BECAUSE YOU DID NOT STUDY AND ARE NOT PREPARED,
ATTENDING THE “HILL CLIMB”, OR SHOPPING AT THE NEAREST MALL,
HUNTING, ETC. DOES NOT POSTPONE YOUR TEST!!
 TALK TO THE TEACHER BEFORE THE ABSENCE AND ARRANGE ANOTHER
TEST DATE FOR FULL CREDIT.
 BIOLOGY I COMMON ASSESSMENTS CAN BE RETAKEN W/TUTORING.

4. HOMEWORK CRITERIA -
 Legible; with correct sentences and punctuation; name and hour at the top.
 Use straight-edged paper or trimmed notebook paper.
 Handed in at beginning of class; no copying while waiting for bell. (Cheating write-up)
 Check with me before leaving for a school activity. Attend Home Room to pick up work
or be written up. You don’t have to stay unless there is a problem.
 EXAMPLE: You cannot leave with a team a second time when you have not taken
care of your homework since the first time you were absent and expect to get credit.
By then, your work is a week late and will not be accepted.
 NO LATE OR UNEXCUSED WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. Turn in what you have.
You cannot finish Homework, under the desk, on your lap after the bell rings.
 You cannot ask for help 2 minutes before the bell rings. That is not “help”, you just
want “answers”. Help takes place in Home Room or at an arranged time.
 LEGITIMATE ABSENTEE WORK WILL BE GIVEN FULL CREDIT. Legal
absentees are: school activities, medical or family emergencies. (NOT SLUFFING)
 NO EXTRA CREDIT!! You will have plenty to do.

5. ATTENDANCE – ABSENTEE PROCEDURE – (is graded)

 Sign in – Sign out at the Attendance Office every time you are absent.
 Class Attendance earns you a point each day. Missing class for any reason is a point lost.
To earn back the point, stop in before school or at Home Room, sign your name in the
Class Homework Binder; pick up the Homework assignment and be on your way, unless
your have some questions. . . . So Easy!!
 WORK MUST BE TURNED IN AT THE NEXT CLASSTIME FOLLOWING AN
EXCUSED ABSENCE, UNLESS YOU HAVE MADE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS.
I will gladly work with you on extended illnesses.
  Homebound Tutors are free. Call the office and request one

6. ACADEMIC GRADES -
 Are based on points earned on daily work, quizzes, tests, labs, presentations, and
attendance.
 Extracurricular activities depend on academic standing and your school discipline record.
 An “F” Biology grade will require Home Room attendance until grade improves.
 Failure to attend an assigned Home Room will result in Detention.

7. CLASSROOM RULES - Mrs. McKim’s 3 R’s and School Discipline Code.

1) Ready - on time, with a pencil, binder, student planner; textbook everyday! PREPARE!
2) Responsible - with daily homework and studying done; PARTICIPATE!
3) Respectful - listen, stay on task; appropriate language; no put-downs; COOPERATE!
**Failure to follow the 3 Classroom Rules will result in a call home, then detention.

8. CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION - students sit in assigned teams; learning to work

respectfully with everyone in the class at some time; some work is groups (labs and
presentations); grading is individual. Any inappropriate language or conversation will be
a warning and a write up.

9. STUDENT MATERIALS -
 Will need a 2” ring binder, straight-edged paper, pencils, & rubber gloves last term.
 A Student Planner or calendar must be brought to class every day in order to record
assignments.
 A science binder must be in class and maintained with work in it at all times. Your grade
will be much better from being organized. You will know what pages to study and where
they are.
 Binder Quizzes will be given following advance notification.
 A comprehensive Semester Final test will be given. Save your work.
 Cell phones and electronic devices are not allowed in class or assemblies.

10. CHEATING CLARIFICATION -

 HANDCOPYING SOMEONE’S HOMEWORK IS CHEATING!
(IN OR OUT OF THE ROOM)
 PHOTOCOPYING SOMEONE’S HOMEWORK IS CHEATING!
 ALLOWING SOMEONE TO COPY YOUR HOMEWORK IS CHEATING!
 CHANGING THE NAME/HEADING ON SOMEONE ELSE’S HOMEWORK IS
CHEATING!
 REMOVING A TEST OR QUIZ FROM THE ROOM IS CHEATING!
 ACCEPTING A STOLEN TEST OR QUIZ FROM SOMEONE IS CHEATING!
 CHECKING OUT OF SCHOOL, ETC., TO POSTPONE TESTS IS CHEATING!

11. DRESS CODE -

School Policy Dress Code will be followed in this classroom or disciplinary action will be
taken. See Pg. 12, 15, 16 of the Student Handbook. “Plumber’s Cracks” and “cleavage”
are inappropriate for school, and are exaggerated when a student bends over a
microscope in the lab. Dress appropriately for a place of learning.
The year ahead can be a very successful one. You will learn about: Responsibility, Organization,
Teamwork, and Biology. Thanks for having yourself in school everyday, well-fed, well-rested, and well-
prepared.
