Studying at NSU Campus and Studying at My Home

H as anyone at any point wondered if where he studies makes any difference in how he studies?
Students, regardless of whether they have a place with schools, colleges, or universities, in the
end, have one bona fide job and that is to get themselves ready for an unrivaled future for them
and the nation by learning new things every day. In any case, their study site generally varies from each
other. The scholastically more fragile students in general, study in a circle with their friends where they can
take the assistance of them on the off chance they unearth an issue. Then again, the premier students, in
general, tend to study in their personal space in a library or possibly in their home. Perhaps studying at the
university campus is more viable than studying at home or vice versa. Each choice offers different
Page |3

advantages and disadvantages. It is important to consider each one cautiously and as per the learner's
learning style before settling on a solitary method for studying. As a first-semester undergraduate student
having a place with North South University (NSU), I as well, feel some clear similarities and simultaneously
some distinctive contrasts between studying at NSU campus and studying at home.

Because of the widespread of the ongoing coronavirus called COVID-19, the university shut its doors with
the goal that individuals can stay at home and maintain social distancing which would prompt any further
spreading of the mentioned virus. The university chose to have the classes taken online by the same
respective individuals known as faculties who were assigned to us when we used to attend classes physically
at the NSU campus to account for the loss of time and to complete the remainder of the course outline, also
so that we could stay in touch with our faculties and friends. Indeed, even with limited resources and endless
entanglements, our faculty members are striving with similar eagerness, passion, and vitality to present the
lectures as they used to back in an NSU classroom before this pandemic started. Subsequently, the students
are learning just as viably and satisfactorily at their home sitting on their couch as they did back in the
classroom seating on a single-seater. In addition, the faculty members designate an assortment of tasks and
assignments to the students to keep them involved, productive and their psyches running and to ensure the
students make the best of their time while social distancing. Such tasks and assignments help the students
keep their concentration on the course outline while restraining them at the same time from forgetting what
they have learned before this unexpected crisis occurred.

In my opinion, the faculty members' commitment to make sure adequate engagement and interest of the
students, regardless of whether we are learning at the campus in a classroom or learning at home through
google classroom is an extraordinary feature. In a regular classroom, the educators would guarantee the
engagement of the entire class by either making the students read a segment of the course book or asking
questions relevant to the content or asking the students to go through the exercises akin to the lesson and
then cross-check the answers once every single understudy has finished. Likewise, during online schooling,
while sitting at our homes, faculty members ask us a range of questions that are course-related or require us
to solve practice sheets uploaded on the virtual classroom in a predefined timeframe and submit them on the
same platform afterward. The above-mentioned are done so to keep up our concentration throughout the
class time with the goal that we do not neglect or overlook any significant piece of our course content.

Another shared feature of the two is access to the internet for both research and study purposes to get a
better understanding of the course materials in case someone finds them difficult, both at home and on the
university campus. Every now and then, a student may come across numerous course-related problems
while finishing his/her homework, assignments, research papers, case studies, or any academic problem of
that kind and may require access to the internet oftentimes. Under those circumstances, he can simply
advance toward the much-enriched NSU library situated inside the campus, and there he will find a cyber
and audiovisual center, where he can look into all the details and information he needs identifying with his
work. NSU is equipped with some of the most sophisticated computers that have subscriptions to many
renowned educational sites that the students can use totally liberated from cost. Likewise, when the student
is at home and needs internet access, he can simply use his home's Wi-Fi if he has an internet subscription at
home. The contrasting part here is that he will not have the option to use the sites without paying cash as he
could on the campus. Nevertheless, NSU has very forthcoming librarians at the students' disposal who hope
to make their lives easy at any hour of the day should the students send them an email or give them a call if
they want to access NSU resources off-campus.

When expounding on the contrasts between studying at home and at the university, learning environment
that these two offers to the students might be the most obvious point to talk about. You have the university
campus, on the one side, where a student can, not just study under different environments but enjoy other
amenities that are offered to him inside the concrete jungle. NSU has many commodities introduced to
enable the students gain knowledge and real-life experience constantly. NSU has one of the biggest libraries
in the country where any student can go if he is looking for a calm and peaceful study setting. Additionally,
Page |4

NSU has a gigantic study hall where a study session consisting of multiple course mates can be arranged
without much of a stretch where one can discuss his problem while others can assist him in understanding
the topic. The university has wooden benches installed everywhere inside the premises. Therefore, if a
student wants to seat out in the open and study, he very well may do so. University life is viewed as
probably the best phase of a student's life where he does not simply spend time studying but creates
wonderful recollections with his friends also and NSU has that option available for its students. There are
separate lounge rooms for both boys and girls where they can gossip with their friends or watch some TV
together and if it is time for their prayers, there is a mosque inside the lounge room. NSU has an outdoor
half-circle shaped seating area where students can spend their leisure time with their friends out in the open
air. It has the necessary facilities and equipment for both outdoor and indoor games for the students who are
into sports and gymnastics. While doing all these activities, if the students become hungry, NSU has a very
nice looking canteen that stays humming all the time. Students can grab a bite while doing chitchats with
their friends. On the contrary, you have your own house, where a student can concentrate on his study alone
without stressing over being late in class and can attempt to address his/her issues, however they want,
without unsettling influences of any kind.

Dissimilar to learning at home, learning at the university campus gives the student an option to use the
library for references and information, which is not like studying at home. North South University has an
enormous library inside the campus that has been readied more than satisfactorily and sorted out aptly by an
extremely experienced group of staff to meet the students' thirst for knowledge. If someone ever needs to
allude to a book associated with his course, he simply can go to the library and select the book that is related
to his study from the monstrous assortment of books accumulated over there. This specific luxury is as far
away as possible for someone who is learning from their home, where he, as a result, does not have the
reach to a ton of books if he ever needs to allude to one.

Oftentimes, students may encounter some meticulous issue while working on an assignment or a thesis
paper that cannot be comprehended through regular strategies, for example, looking upon a book or
searching on the web. In these situations, a student studying on campus can look for the assistance of the
respective faculty, staff members, or teaching assistants of the course. Conversely, when a student
experiences an evenly overwhelming problem while studying at his home, he comes up short on the benefit
of having an up-close and personal discussion with his faculty member accountable for that particular task
and getting advice and direction from the faculty member in regards to the issue. This would put a pause on
the work of the student generally, and make it difficult for him to meet the deadlines.

All things considered, any individual can see solid similarities while solid disparities at the same time too
between studying at NSU campus and studying at home. When studying from home via online classes, a
student is addressed by the same respective faculty members who exhort them on the courses since the
beginning, who make sure the full presence and cooperation of the entire class comparably to how it occurs
in the NSU campus. Faculty members homework assignments and thesis papers to the students at home
similarly as they used to do back in physical classes. Nevertheless, the contrasting characteristics are vividly
visible when pondered upon the environmental factor that both the places provide along with the fact of
being able to physically meet the faculty members, requesting their valuable input, and seeing their response
if a student ever needs any counseling concerning his course. Furthermore, it is noticeable how a student can
profit from the library that is accessible for him inside the campus. Should he need any reference from it he
can visit the place any time during office hours. At long last, the spot of study is simply an abstract matter
that differs from student to student in light of the fact that both places offer the students seeking knowledge
to study under different facilities. Nevertheless, regardless of wherever one decides to study, he/she needs to
make sure he is getting the most out of his session and making it worth his while.

Why I Chose to Enroll in North South University

H igher education is viewed as the last step of formal education and it is fundamental to have an
illustrious future stacked with possibilities. Most perceived definitions explain higher education
inside the bounds of a college or university that awards degrees, and now and again, certifications.
The first thing that surfaces on the vast majority of the students and their folks' minds in the wake of
completing A Level/IB/HSC, is to get themselves or their children admitted to a university for higher
education. This decision is often really distressing, as the university options available in the country, based
on general aspects such as the location, privileges, education, ambiance, environment, and the overall
qualities make the definitive decision significantly more testing and befuddling. Choosing the right
university is essential in realizing the full potential of a student. Despite what might be expected, falling
Page |6

victim to the wrong university choice can have a huge negative effect in life, as a student starts taking all the
significant life decisions from here on. Before making my final choice of being admitted into North South
University (NSU), I too had assessed a few universities. As NSU stood apart from the rest, I felt this was the
ideal place for me. Many students choose to join North South University based on their size, location,
history, and yes, the financial cost. In addition to these genuine reasons as a possible university choice to
pursue higher education, I thought North South University and I am perfect for one another for a few
exceptional reasons.

A university with solid accreditation from both local and foreign bodies is one of the things a student looks
for immediately after finishing high school (A-Level)/college (HSC). North South University (NSU),
Bangladesh's first private university, is modeled on US universities and follows their academic features
including semester systems, credit hours, letter grades, and so on. As it was first adopted, the undergraduate
curricula were to a great extent modeled on the curricula of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
NSU is fully accredited by the University Grants Commission, Bangladesh's only national accreditation
body, while simultaneously NSU is the first to obtain American accreditation for its programs among all the
universities in the entire country. Furthermore, the university is recognized by well-known foreign
institutions from first world countries such as Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, etc.,
meaning that the accolades earned by the graduates at the completion of their undergraduate or postgraduate
studies will be valued in all parts of the world. As a consequence, this opens opportunities for the
understudies to either pursue further studies overseas should they want to or make a living there.

Another deciding factor behind choosing the right university ought to be the academic quality of the
university. Not only does the university rank number one in being the first-ever private university in the
country, but it also takes pride in being number one among all Bangladesh's private universities as a whole.
In Bangladesh, NSU enjoys a high reputation in individuals' minds for a long time. The well-educated
people of the nation respect and admire it greatly because for them NSU represents humility, solemnity,
elegance, and innovation. The international-grade education provided to the students here by equally
professional faculty members is what distinguishes NSU mostly and attracts many students such as myself.
In my opinion, the secret behind NSU, emerging as a top university of the country despite starting its
journey as late as 1993 is its set of profoundly skilled, experienced, and qualified faculty and staff members
who are always willing to help the students. All NSU faculty members have at least one degree from foreign
universities, making them some of the most capable and proficient university educators while at the same
time being very active in their respective fields of research. What separates NSU from others is that if a
specialist cannot be found for a program, they fly teachers from across the globe with the goal that the
students are not left eager for knowledge. Not only does the university boast about having the country's best
teacher, but it also has modern facilities to help students to learn their lessons aptly too. Every classroom in
the university is well outfitted with necessary multimedia accessories, quality sitting arrangements, and
expansive and well-ventilated room structure. Furthermore, the university is also highly equipped with many
microbiology laboratories, circuit-based labs, computer laboratories, and chemical labs that in my belief are
adequate to influence anyone to choose NSU for higher education.

The learning environment was another major influence for me to choose NSU as my destination. One of the
basic things students look for before enrolling in a new university is how forthcoming the university is in
terms of providing essential and adequate facilities. Indeed, NSU accommodates all the essential resources
that a student would fancy to have on his campus. Whether it is a study hall, a library, or a lounge where
students can have a break and catch up with their friends, NSU has a dedicated venue inside the beautiful
campus for all the things. What got my eyes the very first day I walked inside the campus was the state-of-
the-art multi-storied library lodging a huge number of books alongside sound records and whatnot. It is the
nation's first fully automated library. The university has a reputation for standing out in the field of co-
curricular and extracurricular activities. NSU houses an array of clubs with their dedicated rooms, which are
Page |7

reasonable for all the students to join. It is said that NSU has at least one club for each student that matches
his forte.

Since NSU is accredited both nationally and globally, NSU is attractive not only to domestic students like
me but also to students from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, China, and Japan. What's more, under the
Study Abroad and Group Exchange program, students from tier-one universities in the USA and Canada, for
example, Brown University, Smith College, Windsor University are attending the NSU summer semester
and transferring credits back to their parent institutions. It very well may be said that NSU is a place where
individuals of different nationalities, backgrounds, rank, class, ethnicity, race, and caste come under one
umbrella. A student typically mingles with only the local students in a typical school or college, with
comparable tastes, perspectives, and mentalities. I too have been raised with a mindset no less thin than the
remainder of the lot. Yet after I joined NSU and met individuals from all over the world, each with their
own exceptional story and viewpoint, my perspective on life and world had expanded beyond compare. I
started judging people on the basis of their mechanics instead of their physical appearances and began to
understand their hearts, minds, and spirits. With this in mind, I am very thankful to all those individuals I
interacted at NSU who helped in molding my character and personality with more sophistication and
enhancement. I feel as if NSU will make me a champion on diversity and tolerance by the time I finish my
undergraduate degree.

Some of the best men who have ever lived on earth have been teachers. Our beloved Prophet Hazrat
Muhammad (PBUH) was also a teacher with a purpose to teach his Ummah the Qur'an. "The teachers
aren't kings – they know how to make kings," Imam Ghazali used to say. It is only a teacher who can
transform an ordinary child into any semblance of Pluto, Aristotle, Einstein, Wordsworth, and many more. It
can be extremely rare and joyful to get extraordinary teachers in life. They work hard to see the proper
upbringing of their students with absolute dedication and pure devotion. They not just teach us what is in the
book but give us life lessons beyond the book. They are always leading us to our limit with the goal that we
can explore and gain proficiency and defeat our feelings of trepidation and hindrances throughout everyday
life. Being a student of the national curricula previously, which was taught mostly in Bangla, I was truly
terrified toward the start of my course wondering if I will be able to cope with a curriculum that is taught
completely in English, as this is my first semester. I felt like a fish out of water. Then I found myself blessed
and extremely fortunate for getting some of the most amazing and caring faculty members that motivated
me deeply to break the glass ceiling. Special mention to my ENG103 course teacher, Dr. Sadrul Amin,
who is an adjunct faculty here at NSU while his main place of work happens to be at Dhaka University (DU)
where he is a professor and former Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Despite being an adjunct faculty at NSU, he
still treats this place as his home and the students as his children. This phenomenal figure conveys each
lecture with similar enthusiasm and vitality while being exceptionally mindful towards the student as a clear
sign of joy and happiness can be seen on his face whenever a student approaches him with a problem. He is
one of many great teachers that makes the academic life of students like me very simple and pleasant here in
NSU.

I was a STEM student during my school and college days before switching to Business Studies for my
undergraduate degree. Despite the fact that probably the most persevering and energetic educators instruct in
the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of NSU yet I would be lying if I said I did not find a large
portion of my major-related courses overwhelming toward the start of the semester. That is where NSU's
world-class library came in clutch. From my understanding, NSU has a library that can go head to head with
any tier-one university's library of the first world countries. The state-of-the-art library houses more than
50k printed books while the number of online e-books undoubtedly exceeds 6-figure. Whenever I need I
head out to the library and look for detailed insights into the business courses that I am doing right now.
Given the resources, I must say the books, journals, audios have helped me tremendously in terms of getting
a better understanding of what I am learning in my courses. NSU is also helping me pursue a multitude of
activities at its various clubs, where I hope to ignite my flair. Apparently, there exist violent competitions
among the students of world-known universities in all parts of the world. Different from them, North South
Page |8

University gives more consideration to collaboration. Although competition is fundamental, cooperation is

vital. At NSU, you learn as much from your peers outside the classroom as you do in academic spaces. I
joined the Finance Club of the university and I was truly astounded at the hospitality I was given by the club
seniors. NSU is a place that encourages you not to confine yourself within the classroom, and to connect
with the society extensively. Being a member of a community in the university, I actively take part in all
activities to enrich my extracurricular life which helps me develop my leadership skills and make me more
ethical and socially responsible.
Once I grow up, I want to be a catalyst, someone who sparks growth while also trying to contribute to my
country's progress. The thought of selecting the wrong university had troubled me for a while. In any case,
presently I sit back and relax realizing that I am with perhaps the best university in Bangladesh. Many times
I needed to go over the thorough procedure of sifting through the rundown of universities by looking at their
advantages and disadvantages and trust me when I claim that it was not easy at all. Due to its facilities, for
example, well-equipped campus, great scholastic performance, and faculty members and a wonderful
learning environment NSU stood apart from the rest. However, I saw the actual magnificence of NSU,
which provides a strong foundation in the classics, shakes up the traditional canon, connects all the students
on campus in one intellectual project only after joining here. I feel inspired by the thoughts and acts of the
teachers who not just teach but also motivate in an exceptionally one of a kind way and different
understudies from all around the world who have brought a great deal of improvement to my personality,
character, and mentality. With everything taken into account, I believe that choosing NSU for my higher
education has been one of the best decisions I have taken so far in my life and this is the place I look
forward to pursuing a major in Business Administration.
