ACADEMIC YEAR 2011-2012

Feeding Tomorrow, the Foundation of the Institute of Food Technologists, is a charitable entity that
understands the importance of food science education. Annual scholarships are awarded to qualified
students pursuing advanced degrees in food science. Scholarship winners must be members of the
IFT Student Association. Please visit http://www.ift.org/scholarships for eligibility requirements.

Scholarship applications must be submitted to the Feeding Tomorrow office by February 15, 2011.
• Scholarship recipients will be notified in May 2011
• All applications must be typed in English
• Unsolicited materials will not be accepted

Please include the following documents with your application:


• Official undergraduate and graduate college transcripts
• (3) Three Letters of recommendation

SECTION II: AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship applicants may only apply for ONE scholarship. Please select only ONE
scholarship from the list below. Visit http://www.ift.org/scholarships for eligibility requirements.

• Feeding Tomorrow Education Scholarship (Section II A)


• Corporate Scholarship (Section II B)

Section II A:
Feeding Tomorrow Education Fund Scholarship (monetary amount varies from $2,000-$5,000)
• The Feeding Tomorrow Education Fund provides scholarship funding to graduate students
demonstrating exceptional scholastic achievements, leadership experience and a devotion to the
food science and technology profession.

Section II B:

Frito-Lay Scholarship $2,500


• This scholarship will be evaluated with the same guidelines as the Feeding Tomorrow graduate
scholarship.
NEW Dr. Richard L. Hall Scholarship in Flavor Science $2,000
• Sponsored by the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA), the student’s research
will express sound science in the safety assessment of flavors.
General Mills Internship (separate application available on http://www.ift.org/scholarships) $5,000
• General Mills awards two paid research & development internships and stipends for summer
2011.
Gerber Endowment in Pediatric Nutrition $3,000
• This scholarship is intended for students conducting research in nutrition with an emphasis on
pediatrics. The scholarship is evaluated with the same guidelines as the Feeding Tomorrow
graduate scholarship.
Institute for Thermal Processing Specialists-Master’s Degree Scholarship $2,000
• This scholarship is for a master’s degree student studying food science, food engineering or food
microbiology as it relates to food preservation.
Institute for Thermal Processing Specialists -Ph.D. Degree Scholarship $2,000
• This scholarship is for a doctoral student studying food science, food engineering or food
microbiology as it relates to food preservation.
Procter & Gamble Scholarship $2,500
• This scholarship will be evaluated with the same guidelines as the Feeding Tomorrow Graduate
Scholarship.
Society of Flavor Chemists $2,000
• The student’s application must demonstrate research experience in flavor chemistry.

Section II C:

IFT Extension and Outreach Division $1,000


• The Master’s or Ph.D. applicant must be enrolled in any Land Grant institution that has an
extension component. The student’s professional & research goals must relate to extension
education.
IFT Carbohydrate Division $1,000
• The student’s application will express an expertise in carbohydrate chemistry.
IFT Food Microbiology Division $2,000
• The student’s application will outline career objectives and professional aspirations relating to
microbiology.
IFT Food Packaging Division $1,000
• The student’s research will concentrate in food packaging.
IFT Quality Assurance Division $2,500
• The application will outline the student’s interest/experience with food safety and quality
assurance.
IFT Sensory and Consumer Sciences Division -Master’s Degree Scholarship $2,000
• The Master’s scholarship is available to a first or second year graduate student pursuing
advanced degrees in sensory science. Post-graduate students are also encouraged to apply and
will be eligible to receive the monetary award in 2011.
IFT Sensory and Consumer Sciences Division -Ph.D. Degree Scholarship $5,000
• This scholarship is available to a graduate student in a doctoral program conducting research
focused on food sensory and consumer science.

Please visit iftsa.org for information on student membership dues and the benefits of the IFT Student
Association. Scholarship winners must join IFTSA /renew membership dues by August 1, 2011 in order
to receive his or her scholarship money. Student membership dues are $50. Scholarship money is
disbursed in two installments to the Department Head: August 15, 2011 and January 11, 2012.

Scholarship applications must be received by February 15, 2011 with all appropriate documents.
Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
