If I then, your
Lord and Teacher,

John 13:14-15
have washed your

FAY FOOTPRINTS feet, you also ought

to wash one an-
other’s feet. For I
have given you an
example, that you

as I have done to
you.
Ça y est, nous allons au Cameroun!
10.5 years ago, Cara heard God’s whisper of a call to Africa.
5 years ago, He began tugging on Kory’s heart.
4.5 years ago, we first learned about the need for Bible Translation.
3 years ago, we became missionaries with LBT.
Many classes and many church visits later, we are now about to leave for Cameroon. We leave knowing that
we are lifted up in prayer and supported financially. We leave feeling refreshed and renewed by our time in
the U.S. We also leave with one extra family member than we had when we arrived back in September. We
ask for your prayers as we begin this adventure that God has called us to take
part in. Here is a rough sketch of our plans for the first couple of months:
On the afternoon of February 24, we will depart from Indianapolis and will ar-
rive in Yaoundé (the capital) on the evening of the 25th. Once there, we will
spend a few days in the capital and then travel to Yimbéré, the village where
Martin and Joan Weber serve (fellow LBT missionaries). The Webers have al-
ready done much to help us with the details of our arrival and they will be with
us for the first couple of months, sharing with us some of their wisdom and ad-
vice about living life in Cameroon (they have almost 30 years of first-hand ex-
perience, so we couldn’t ask for better teachers!). After about a week in Yim-
béré, we will head to Galim, the primary village of the Nizaa, for a couple of
days so that Cara and the children can see the village and we can all decide on
where to live (see “Choosing a House...”). Finally, we will head to Ngaoundéré,
the provincial capital and home of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camer-
oon, where Joan, Cara, and the children will stay for the next month or so.
Cara is hoping to get a start on Fulfulde language learning, while also learning
how to take care of our household in this new context. Meanwhile, Kory and
Martin will head back to Galim and begin fixing up our home there. Some (or
much) of this plan could change, but hopefully, it will give you some idea of
what our first few weeks will look like.
• Praise God for our time in the U.S.– we have been very blessed to spend time with family and supporters!
• Praise Him that our vehicle is fully funded! We bought a silver Toyota Hilux which will be waiting for us in
Yaoundé when we arrive.
• Praise God for the Webers and David Maffett (our supervisor) for all of their help during this time of prepa-

ration.
• Praise God that we have received our visas and that our monthly support has increased!
• Pray for good health, especially for Sam, Lucy, and Kye.
• Pray for smooth travels, both by plane and by car.
• Pray for flexibility, patience, wisdom, humility, and a good sense of humor as we go into this new culture.
• Pray for wisdom in deciding where to live in the village.
• Pray for our relationships with the Lord and with one another– if our family is not standing on solid ground
our ministry to the Nizaa will not, either.
Choosing a House December and January
to Make Our Home in Pictures
Ever since Kory’s short trip to
Cameroon, we have asked you all
to pray for our housing situation
in Galim. He was able to see one
available house, which is in very
good condition and needs minimal
repairs, but is about 2 miles
away from the “Nizaa quarter”
meaning that language learning
would take a little more effort
because we wouldn’t really be
surrounded by the speakers of
the language. We asked the
lamido (muslim leader of the vil-
lage, like a “chief”) to find us a
house closer to the Nizaa quarter
and, on a recent visit by Martin
Weber, the lamido offered his pre-
vious residence. It is a bit smaller
and needs more repairs, but it is
right in the middle of where Nizaa
speakers are living. Soon after we
arrive in Cameroon, we will visit
Galim and decide on which house
to make our home. Please pray for
wisdom in this decision and for
quick progress on the repairs so
that we can move in as soon
as possible. Clockwise from top left: Kye is now two months old and getting more interactive by the
minute / He was baptized in Indy on the day after Christmas by Pastor May / Favorite past
time (besides sleeping and eating) is bath time! / Lucy with her cousin, June, at the zoo / She
was a big fan of decorating (and eating!) sugar cookies / Kye with cousin Ruben (June’s
brother), who is just one month older than him / Sam is such a good helper– he especially
loves shoveling snow and helping with cooking /This was taken just The mission of
