President‟s Message___________________________________
Kung Hee Fat Choy!

Congratulations on one more in the record books with a win in 2010 at being the
Number one Jaycee Chapter in Hawaii! We started this year with a “Great Start”
kicking off with Chinese New Year! Night in Chinatown was a great success led by
our Community Development Vice President Melanie Wong and the Fearless Night
in Chinatown Chairman Chris Parker.

Thank you all for your help and support with this Awesome Community event we
help plan and run by partnering up with the experienced past Honolulu Chinese
Jaycee members in the Chinese Merchants Association. This is event was ranked
in 2010 the top 5 best Chinese New Year Celebrations in the World! Every year
there is something new and exciting changing with in this event, this year adding an
additional stage with entertainment throughout the night.

The 2011 Honolulu Chinese Jaycee board of directors have some great new ideas and activities in the
works. We will be continuing the ideas of Dinning out, birthday celebrations, and hiking throughout the
year. There are other great ideas in the works and we would encourage your support and help on
organizing these fun activities for you to be a part of. Along with these fun events we are looking to expand
projects internationally.

Through the past travels in 2010 we have reacquainted the board with our sister chapters in Japan and
Hong Kong. The Travels began in Japan with visiting our sister chapter JCI Utsunomia in January of 2010,
our 59th president Ryan Ng attended the World Congress in Osaka in November, and with ending the year
with Sarah Young traveling to Hong Kong and visiting the Peninsula Junior Chamber. Our 2011
International Vice President Sarah Young will continue our communications with great efforts rekindle
some joint projects we are able to do overseas.

We are starting this year strong as our Jaycee Creed says “brother hood of man transcends the
sovereignty of nations.” We continue to grow with the strength of the members and the impact we can
make in our communities and the world.

Empower the Dream,

Anthony Sato
“60th President of the Great Honolulu Chinese Jaycees – Empower the Dream”

HCJ History, A Moment In Time_________________
On June 19, 1972, Jaycee National President Ronald Au presents
plaque to US Vice President Spiro Agnew in appreciation of his
speech at the opening session of the Jaycee National Convention.
Agnew was a substitute for President Nixon.

Ronald Au was the 15th President of the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees

(1967-1968). He later went to serve as Hawaii Jaycees State
President and Jaycees National Vice President in 1972. He is an
attorney by trade.

Spirew Agnew was the 39th Vice President of the United States,
serving under President Richard Nixon and the 55th Governor of
Maryland.

Meet Brandon Suguira, Director_________________

It is hard to believe that my first year as a member has passed. As a
member, I have taken on projects like the Adopt-a-School and some of my
own like my ten-year high school reunion. Although 2010 has gone quickly,
it has been a tremendous year for me to commemorate.

My name is Brandon Sugiura and I am one of the six directors that is

serving this year under the direction of Mr. Anthony Sato. As a Job Corps
graduate, I can proudly vouch that I have taken on several leadership
positions. Being part of this year's board would help me utilize my
leadership skills that I gained. In addition, I will understand the procedures
and the principles better so I can be an effective leader.

As for my hobbies, I enjoy reading, collecting reference materials and reading up on chemistry and astrology
(mainly Chinese and the one we commonly use). I also like to go 'out & about' with friends. I also like
attending networking events as well as attending debates held by local colleges. I am going to be judge or
attendant in an upcoming debating tournament soon.

I am currently an active employee with a temp agency and right now I am on call. Like the Jaycees, when I
am needed, I am there. I don't use the Jaycees as a 'time killer' for me but rather as training for the real
world and the business world.

As my second year comes upon me, I hope that I become more improved and more disciplined in what I do.
I do hope this helps you understand me as a person and I hope that my duties as a director will be fulfilled
by the end of 2011. Overall, I do want to personally thank all of my chapter and Jaycees colleagues for their
help and inspiration and hope that I can use this knowledge to my advantage on the BOD. I do encourage all
of my colleagues to have a great and prosperous year and let us all help our new president empower
dreams throughout the year.
