serious drainage and settling problems, and possible restnc

Supplement
1be following material summarizes the procedure and assumptions used to develop the
tables, and is included for those wishing to evaluate the designs.

Designing Slats and Beams

Safe superimposable loads, plf, were computed for several M= 1.5396WxSpan,in-lb
sizes and spans of reinforced concrete beams with one, RBOT = 2W/ 3 = reaction in bottom of wall
two, and three tension bars. The design procedure selected d = t - 2" cover
the size, span and reinforcing, and then determined the As· = M/ fsjd, balanced design
load-carrying capacity as the least of bending, shear, bond,
and deflection. Both cover and d are functions of bar diameter; convert
Criteria were selected from ACI-318-63, WSD Part IV A As to a bar number;
Taper in slats was ignored As= 6.65 max,# 11 @ 1.25" clearance.
As less than 0.20, bar= #3.
As from 0. 20 to 6. 65:
Bar# = - 2.164As~ + B. 784A.s + 2.454
The equation assigns a given bar number between its
own area (#4 = 0.20) and the next larger (#5 = 0.31).
c Bar spacing is therefore no larger than 12".
Second Approximation:

- T d = t - Dsf 2 - cover
cover = 1 1/ 2" to# 5, 2" for larger bars.
k = 1/2(-C + (C 2 + 4Ci.1)
where C = 2nA.s/ bd

Return to equation lor bar size; recompute bar number

Designing Waste Storage Tanks shorter and narrower than trucks. Therefore designs are
Safe designs were computed for walls and covers of based on load = axle load
liquid storage tanks. The procedure determined reinforcing

lid thicknesses, spans, and loads.
