Molly (the monkey) Finds Fairness

-While playing in the sandbox, Molly built a castle tall. She built it very
carefully, and hoped it would not fall. It took her a long time, but in the end
it looked just great. It even had a bridge that led right up to the front gate.
-But when she finished building her imaginary town, a big bully named
Maggie came and smashed the whole thing down. She stomped and kicked
the sand until there was no castle there, and Molly in a tearful voice said,
"That just isn't fair."
-Then Maggie said, "Too bad for you. Life isn't fair you see, and if life isn't
fair, then why do you think I should be?" It hurt to hear what maggie said.
She really didn't care. So Molly had to wonder, "Is life really so unfair?"
-It seemed perhaps what Maggie said was actually true. Sometimes she was
amazed at awful things that people do. The world is full of people who do
things that are not fair. A lot of countries fight, because they have not
learned to share.
-Some people steal from others, harming them with selfish greed. Some
people take too much, so others can't get what they need. Some things in
life were just not fair, of that there was no doubt. But that did not seem
reason to forget what life's about.
-She thought about how much it hurt to see her castle fall. She thought
about what Maggie said. It made her feel so small, and she did not want
anyone to ever feel that sad. She'd rather do the right thing, than make
someone else feel bad.
-So Molly thought that being fair was the right thing to do. She knew that it
took fairness to make others happy too. She thought, "Sometimes life isn't
fair as I think it should be, but I can make a difference, so fairness will start
with me."
-As Molly made her mind up to do right and to be fair, She turned around
and saw that Maggie was still standing there. And Maggie came to Molly
with her head held very low. She said, "I am so sorry. What I did was
wrong, I know."
-"I'm building you a castle. Would you like to come and see? I want to
make your castle just the way it used to be." Then Molly said, "I forgive
you. Let's go and have some fun. If we can work together, we can make a
better one!"
-So off they went together, and they built a tall castle. Very beautiful one.
They became friends and learned that it was much more fun to share. They
both became much happier by choosing to be fair.
