Week 2 This week was spent researching target audiences

What did you find out about your
target audience through your
secondary research?
From the secondary research I have gathered that
people aged 40-59 have a various amount of issues
regarding mental health and social life. This age
range fits perfectly with the target audience that I am
aiming to create my production for. This may show
that people of that age range are more comfortable
with watching relatable productions rather than
anything that reminds them of the ongoing issue s in
their life’s, as they are looking hoping people
understand their issues too. This shows that I should
create a production that relates and manages to
showcase the real world problems various people
withing the age group have.

secondary research this week?
This research will be key for me as I proceed to
develop my ideas, as it will help me to change it to
meet my target audience. Now that I understand my
target audience a bit better, I will be able to use this
information to produce a short film that they can
relate to and enjoy.
Interviewing people from my chosen target audience
was very effective for me as it allowed me to
understand them fully and build a deeper
understanding of what they want to see.
During my surveys I was not able to get a large
amount of response due to the fact that some people
I had asked did not have enough time or they did not
understand it fully, however the responses I did gather
were quite in depth and informative.
The target audience of 40 – 60 have multiple areas
that I could focus on, however the main topic I want
to focus on is the to give the audience a feeling that
their voices are heard and that they are not going
through their situations alone.

This week was spent researching codes and
conventions
I have chosen to make a drama for my short film
because it is known to be popular with the age group
of 40–60-year-olds, by choosing a genre that is
popular within the age group it is more enjoyable for
the viewers. This also gives me an opportunity to
experiment with filming more within the genre and
improving my story telling and technical skills. My
music video is mainly planned of my target audience
research hence why there is no genre based for the
music video. However, the theme I’m going for is a
classical old feel.
My research this week has helped me to understand
what makes various productions successful. I have
looked into the different aspects that make a movie
such as sound, set design and lighting. I have also
 looked at Todorov’s theory and the different
characters and their roles within movies.

All of the research I have done this week will help me
on all of my productions. I aim to use everything I
have learnt this week to improve my work and to
make sure I create two productions that are both at
the highest quality possible and that my target
audience thoroughly enjoy them.
A convention of a drama is the narrative. Dramas
usually include conflict within the narrative to make
them more interesting and eye catching however not
all narratives follow the same structure, and it’s normal
for dramas to have non-linear narratives to allow us to
see a more complex story being told.
