BEARING GAP ADJUSTMENT

Equipment:

This applies to all Xplorer 1600 systems.

Problem Description

It has been determined that if the rear bearings in the carriage assembly
of the stand are not properly tightened and adjusted, lateral play of the
complete assembly could develop and under some circumstances cause
the emergency brake not to activate when needed. See photo below for
position of the bearings. Note that only the rear bearings (labeled “Back
Bearing” in the photo is the subject of this technical bulletin.

Please note: If your unit has an E06 error code displayed you must
follow the repair procedure in the Sedecal service manual before
proceeding with this service inspection
Correction:

The corrective action is to adjust the gap between the bearings and the rear
rail and to assure that the bearings have been correctly tightened. The
bearings that may cause this problem are only the four associated with the
back rail.

Materials:

• Torque Wrench.
• 18 mm open end wrench
• Set of metric allen key wrenches.
• Feeler gauge (0.3mm)

FIELD ACTION

In the back face of the main carriage there are 4 bearings that should be
correctly gapped in relation to the rear bearing guide rail.

1. First check if the gap between the bearings and the guide is correct. The
gap is correct when one of the bearings is touching the bearing rail and
there is a 0.3 mm gap between the rail and the opposing bearing (see
photo below). If this is correct, you may proceed to step three.
2. Adjust the gap if necessary. To adjust the gap, slide the 0.3 mm shim
against the rail between the rail and one bearing. Adjust the eccentric with
the 18 mm open-end wrench until the bearing makes contact with the shim
and the opposing bearing is in contact with the rail.
3. Check the screws are properly tightened. Each screw must be tightened
to 15Nm (newton-meters) of torque. Use a torque wrench to check this.
Use the 18 mm open-end wrench to hold the eccentric nut still while
tightening. Use an allen key wrench to tighten the screw.
