PARALOID B72

Acrylate bitumen for restoration

Characteristics
Acrylate bitumen based on copolymere ethylmetacrylate-metylacrylate. It has the following
advantages:
- medium strong, thermoplastic, pure acrylate
- easy treatment
- resistant against UV radiation
- after bare setting of the agent it is not sticking
- it does not grease
- resists against sour rains
- does not form by-products affecting building material.

Application
PARALOID B72 can be applied for strenghtening of natural stone, plasters, wood etc. It is useful for
impregnation and reinforcement of wall paintings and pictures where it is used both as basic
impregnation and a last finishing. It is further applied as fixative for graphics, for paintings by chalk,
coal and pastel paintings, as adhesive for glass and ceramics, for consolidation and conservation of
wood.

Treatment
Concentration and the type of solvent would be choosen according to the purpose and given material.
Where the bases are not uniformly absorptive it is better to apply lower concentrations and then the
coating repeat. Solution of PARALOID B 72 is applied repeatedly wet-in-wet. As soon as the solution
is absorbed and the surface stops to lustre, another application can be made.
On the treated base there must not stay any unabsorbed solution enabled to form lustrious spots.

Examples of application:

Wall paintings: For consolidation of wall paintings freco/seco, mineral and lime colours, for
strenghtening of plasters etc. It is recommended max. 5 % solution with toluene/isopropanol.
Pictures: For reinforcing and consolidating of the base and coloured layers on cloth or on wood it is
recommended 5 10 % solution of toluene or toluene/isopronanol. Cracks can be pushed back by
means of warming-up spatula. PARALOID B27 can be applied as the prime fixation by brush in the10
% solution with toluene/xylene. The last finish is applied in the same concentration by the spraying
pistol. When it is sprayed at higher temperatures, it is useful to add 10 % Shellsol A or PM Cellosolve.
Wood: for consolidation, 5 10 % solutions with toluen are recommended. For longer and deeper
penetration the solutions with toluene/Shellsol A or toluene/xylene are possible to make. Fixative the
solution of 2 4 % with toluene/isopropanol is available for drawings by pencil-lead, chalk, coal and
pastels.
Glass and ceramics: quickly dried 10 % solution with acetone or acetone/alcohol is used as an
adhesive agent. Individual parts are saturated by 10 % solution at first and then stick by 20 40 %
solution.
