Overview
As the corporate R&D Center at Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (“SEC”), we pursue
emerging and disruptive technologies across a broad range of SEC’s business areas
to seed and uncover new business opportunities. Our goal is to devote our talent
and technology to creating superior products and services that contribute to a
better global society.

The SAIT Global Research Outreach Program (“SAIT GRO Program”) is SAIT’s annual
call for proposal, open to world’s leading universities. It’s designed to create
opportunities – at colleges, and universities around the world – for breakthrough
research. With this call, SAIT invites your best and novel ideas on a range of
compelling research subjects with the goal of establishing a collaborative research
relationship with SAIT.

Program details are provided below. Research Project Specification proposal will be
accepted via the email (see Submission). All proposals must be received no
later than 9:00 A.M. Korea Standard Time (UTC+9), May 15, 2010.

Program Awards
Awards under the 2010 SAIT GRO Program are intended to provide contract-based
financial support for selected research project. Awards will be in the form of cash
and provide in the range of US$50,000 to US$100,000, including overhead.
Awards may be renewed up to three (3) years, based on project duration, research
outcomes and SAIT business needs. Supported projects will be expected to
begin on September 1, 2010.

Research Subjects
The 2010 SAIT GRO Program is seeking proposals in Sixteen (16) Research Subjects.
Details are described in the Research Subject Description document. (file name:

Eligibility for Awards
To be eligible for an award under this program, an applicant’s university must
accept the 2010 SAIT GRO Program Research Agreement (“RA”) as part of
the proposal-submission process. (see Appendix 1). Key provisions of the RA
specify university and SAIT project conditions and funding process for the project,
intellectual property rights and clarify other important aspects of the research
collaboration.
Initial acceptance by the applicant’s university is accomplished through
submission of an Acceptance Letter without any modifications, detailed in
Appendix 2. The Acceptance Letter also confirms that no confidential or
proprietary information will be included in submitted proposals. SAIT will treat all
information submitted in proposals as non-confidential and non-
proprietary.

Universities selected for awards must also sign the RA before award processing.

SAIT will make award announcements in August 2010.

Submission
Applicants must submit the following two (2) documents:

1. Research Project Specification proposal (“Proposal”) : Proposals
recommend to be no longer than 10 pages; additional pages may be
used for supporting figures, images, data or other documentation.

2. 2010 SAIT GRO RA Acceptance Letter: To be eligible, applicants must


submit an unmodified Acceptance Letter which is completed and signed
by an authorized official of the universities.

Proposal must be submitted in English via email listed below. Submission


documents must be in MS Word file format. And scanned file of the signed RA
Acceptance Letter must be in PDF file format only.

Proposal Format
Proposal is expected to provide answers, in English, in MS Word format, to the
following questions. Proposal recommend to be no longer than 10 pages.
Appendices, if included, do not need to be included as part of 10 page count.

If your Proposal is multi-year based, please specify in PART 2. But PART 1, 3, 4, and
5 should be completed on a one year proposal base.

If your Proposal is a joint proposal, PART 4 Budget should be detailed separately for
each university.

Please note that, for multi-year proposals, awards will be made for one year only.
Your project may get funded for up to three consecutive years only after you submit
updated Proposals and get selected again for the subsequent years.

Evaluation Criteria
The 2010 SAIT GRO Program seeks ambitious and innovative proposals that expand
SAIT’s fields of research and provide breakthrough ideas for SEC research needs.
Our interest is to build research relationships with world-class researchers who have
a track record of conducting creative research and deliver innovative ideas to SAIT.

SAIT will evaluate proposals against four primary criteria:

1. The innovativeness, ambition, scientific, and societal impact of the


research
2. How well the proposed research addresses the subjects outlined in
“Research Subject Description”.
3. The research record and standing of the principal investigator in relevant
field(s)
4. The strength of the research plan

Appendix 1: 2010 SAIT Global Research Outreach
Program Research Agreement

To be eligible for an award under this program, an applicant’s university


must accept the 2010 SAIT GRO Program Research Agreement
(“RA”) as part of the proposal-submission process.

It is the responsibility of the proposal submitter to ensure that its


university has completed the RA Acceptance Letter (in Appendix 2)
prior to submission of its Research Project Specification proposal
(“Proposal”).

A proposal that is not accompanied by a signed Acceptance Letter will not be


reviewed.

The 2010 SAIT GRO Research Agreement will be made available to you
through the Industrial Contract Office[note] of your university or SAIT GRO
manager of your region upon request.

Appendix 2: 2010 SAIT Global Research Outreach
Program Research Agreement Acceptance Letter

Advance acceptance by an applicant’s university of the 2010 SAIT GRO


Program Research Agreement (“RA”) is required for each Research Project
Specification proposal (“Proposal”) submission.

The Acceptance Letter template is provided as a file.


(file name: “2010_SAIT_GRO_RA Acceptance Letter”)

The Acceptance Letter also certifies that no proprietary or confidential


information is included in submitted Proposals.

The Acceptance Letter must be completed and signed – without


modification – by an authorized official of the university. Applicants are
responsible for determining the appropriate authority in their university to
sign the Acceptance Letter. The signature of the applicant will not be
accepted under any circumstances as proof of acceptance by the university.
Applicants can submit scanned Acceptance Letter by email in PDF file
format.

Award-winning universities must additionally sign the RA before awards can


be processed. The completed Acceptance Letter is not a substitute for the
signed RA.
