Test I-Matching Type

Direction: Choose the best answer from the box and write it on the space provided before the item.

Faith is:
A. Certain, yet Obscure
B. Free yet morally obliging
C. Reasonable yet more than
natural reason
D. An Act, yet a process
E. A gift yet our doing
F. Personal, yet Ecclesial
G. Personal yet ecclessial
________1. It is grounded on God who reveals himself through Jesus Christ, present to us in the Holy Spirit. We are
sure of our faith because we believe that our knowledge of God is based on the convincing signs He has presented in
Jesus Christ, made manifest in the church through the word, service, fellowship, and sacrament. Yet, even if we are
sure of our belief in God, not everything is clear to us. This is because our limited human mind cannot fully grasp God.
God is always more than we can ever fully understand.
________2. Abraham gave his voluntary response to God, God did not force him to it. Yet, Abraham felt in his heart
that he is bound to God in conscience. Yet God forces us to obey him (God respects our freedom and dignity) rather, it
is because God loves us more than anybody could. Therefore, He has the greatest claim on us.
________3. This means that when God revealed Himself to us, He took into consideration our make up as body
persons with intellect and will. This being so, we are thus capable of grasping the truths of faith. Yet, faith is a grace
that enlightens our minds. We can come to know God in faith only through grace since it is god who has freely called
us through loving revelation, and it is the Holy Spirit who inspires us from within to perceive and accept the signs of
God’s self-revelation.
________4. It involves single and personal decision. Yet, this personal decision must be start of the enduring way of
life within the community, the church. Abraham’s faith in God was manifested when he “went as the Lord Directed.”
But this was just the start of his long journey of faith. His entire life was a testimony to that single, personal decision
he made to follow God.
________5. Faith is an unmerited blessings. It is a grace from God yet at the same time, it is also something we do. It
is a gift because it comes from God who takes the initiative in revealing himself to us; it is a grace because we cannot
believe unless the Holy Spirit illumines and inspires us. Faith is our act because we need to respond to this blessings
from God. We have to act in accordance with the faith we received. In the case of Abraham, it was God who called
Abraham and took the initiative in revealing His Devine pla. It was God who initiated the covenant. To seal the
covenant, however, Abraham gave his assent to it and his whole life is a testimony of his free cooperation with the
plan of God.
