What is UCS ?

• A unified computing system (UCS) is a

Cisco designed system for creating a more
cost-effective, efficient and centrally
managed data center architecture by
integrating computing, networking,
virtualization and storage features &
functionalities.

• It is an (x86) architecture data center server

platform composed of computing hardware,
virtualization support, switching fabric, and
management software which was
introduced in 2009.

UCSM Platform Emulator (UCSPE)
 UCSPE(UCS Platform Emulator) is a software emulator which emulates
all of UCS components to give an experience of real Hardware.
 This is mainly intended for training, demo, early testing purpose. Below
details will give where/how to get it, deploy & bring up to practice.

 UCSPE Cisco community site 

https://communities.cisco.com/docs/DOC-37827
 Detailed UCSPE user guide 

UCSM Platform Emulator (UCSPE) -Bringup
•Download UCSPE3.1.2bPE1 @ https://communities.cisco.com/docs/DOC-69786 (Requires Cisco.com login)
UCSPE OVA  UCSPE_3.1.2b.ova
•Import to ESXi vSphere Client to create UCSPE VM

•Point to OVA file downloaded

•Once VM is created, power on the vm….allow some time for VM to boot

UCSPE - Bringup
Once VM completely boots….it will show
Press “n” for configuring the IP address. It
up in below screen in VM Console
requires 3 IP address: VIP, FI-A-IP & FI-B-IP

• Once applied it will restart the network & ready for launch.
• Type VIP address on browser. Example: https://10.197.253.50
• By default, UCSPE will come up with latest FI’s FI6332 as below
