Examination and study regulations (statutes)


of the mechanical engineering, process engineering and maritime technologies department as well
of the Department of Energy and Biotechnology for the Master's degree
Wind engineering at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences
from October 8, 2014

(1) On the basis of Section 52 (1) of the Higher Education Act (HSG) of February 28, 2007 (GVOBl.
H. 2007, p. 184), last amended by law of 22 August 2013 (GVOBl. Schl.-HS
365), following a resolution by the convention of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and
Maritime Technologies on January 8, 2014, and following a resolution by the Convention of the Energy and
Biotechnology Department on January 15, 2014, the approval of the Senate of the Flensburg University of Applied
Sciences on September 17, 2014 and with the approval of the Presidium of the University of Applied Sciences Flensburg
issued the following statutes on September 22, 2014

(2) These examination and study regulations refer to the interdisciplinary provisions
according to the examination procedure regulations (PVO) of the University of Applied Sciences Flensburg.

(3) This course is a cooperative course with the Kiel University of Applied Sciences.

§1
Study objective

The objectives of the degree in Wind Engineering are:

(1) Independent recognition and analysis of subject-related problems for


Development of independent technical-scientific solutions and for the successful implementation of the developed
solutions in marketable products and services.

(2) Acquisition of (special) knowledge and skills and their application to complex ones
Problems from scientific practice.

(3) Developing interdisciplinary skills in working methods and teamwork.

(4) Ability to work independently and scientifically in innovative research fields.

§2
graduation

(1) After passing the master’s examination, the master’s course in Wind Engineering
the university degree Master of Science (abbreviated M.Sc.) awarded.

(2) The master’s degree is another professional qualification and entitles


in addition to the doctorate.

§3
Admission requirements

(1) The Presidium decides on admission to the Master’s program on the recommendation of a
Selection committee appointed by the departments involved and consisting of two professors of the degree
program.

(2) Anyone who is in one of the courses can be admitted to the Master’s course
Mechanical engineering, electrical energy system technology or regenerative energy technology has passed the final
examination for a bachelor's or diploma.

(3) Applicants for other subject-related degree programs can study


with the condition that individual events have to be made up for. The selection committee specifies the modules in
accordance with the procedure outlined in the appendix. Proof of successful participation in these additional
modules is a prerequisite for registering for the thesis.

(4) As a further prerequisite for admission to the course, in addition to those in paragraphs 1 to 3
mentioned requirements are required:

1. a final examination with at least GOOD or

2. at least two positive reports from professors at the previously attended university (s) or

3. A suitability assessment by the selection committee.

(5) Applicants must have a satisfactory command of the English language


point. Evidence can be provided as follows:

1. Mother tongue or English

2. through a Cambridge First Certificate or

3. through a certificate from a general school with a technical college entrance qualification
With at least the grade SATISFYING or
7 POINTS in English or

4th through a stay of at least one year in an English-speaking country or

5. with a TOEFL score of at least 61 POINTS (iBT) or an IELTS result of 5.0 (Overall Band Score) or

6th through proof of sufficient bilingual school tuition or a corresponding professional activity.

§4
Standard period of study, study volume

(1) The standard period of study, including the master’s examination, is four semesters. (2) 30 credit

points (CP) must be acquired in each semester.

(3) Admitted graduates of the bachelor's degrees mentioned under §3 Paragraph 2 + 3


and diploma courses are enrolled in the second semester and the standard period of study is three semesters if the
bachelor's or diploma course has a scope of 210 credit points (CP). The study volume is then 90 credit points (CP).

(4) The courses in the study semesters build on one another.

§5
Modules and exams

(1) The following table shows the module and examination plan.

(2) The transferability and recognition of the grades obtained is governed by Section 14, Paragraph 6 of the
Examination procedure regulations. The allocation of credit points (CP) to the individual modules can be found in
the tables below.

§6
Exam language

(1) The language of instruction and examination language in the course are English (§ 6, Paragraph 4, PVO).
If all students participating in a module so wish, the language of instruction can be German.

(2) The teaching media used, the examination documents and the examinations are closely
in the lish language.

(3) Group work (presentations, reports) must be carried out in English. On


Joint application of all group members can also choose the German language.

(4) Upon request, the thesis can be written in German. Likewise can
for a positive application, the colloquium will be held in German.

§7
Thesis

(1) The thesis is written in the fourth semester.

(2) Those who have earned at least 45 credit points (CP) for the 3-semester standard period of study when enrolling in
the second semester or 75 credit points (CP) in the case of the 4-semester standard period of study with regular
enrollment in the first semester are admitted to the final thesis.

(3) The processing time for the thesis is five months (§ 21, Paragraph 6, PVO).

(4) The topic of the thesis can only be returned within the first four weeks after it has been issued (§ 21, Paragraph 7,
PVO).

(5) The processing time for the thesis can be extended by a maximum of four weeks. An application for an extension
must be submitted to the examination board no later than 14 days before the submission date (§ 21, Paragraph 8,
PVO).

§ 8th
colloquium

(1) A colloquium is planned for the Master’s degree in Wind Engineering (Section 24, Paragraph 1,
PVO).

(2) The colloquium lasts 60 minutes per candidate (Section 24, Paragraph 2, PVO).

Formation of the overall grade, certificate

The overall grade is calculated from the weighted individual grades of the examinations and the grade of the master's
thesis (70% of which is calculated from the grade for the thesis and 30% from the grade for the colloquium). The weight
of a module is determined on the basis of credit points: the credit points of a module divided by the sum of the credit
points of all modules included in the overall grade (§ 25, Paragraph 3, PVO).

§ 10
Come into effect

(1) These examination and study regulations come into force on the day after their announcement.

(2) It is valid for the first time for all students who are studying in the winter semester 2014/15
Take up a master’s degree in Wind Engineering at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences.

(3) Entitlement to the range of courses and the examinations exists only within the framework of the
Introduction of these examination and study regulations every semester.

ATTACHMENT

Specification of the admission and admission requirements

A.1:
Related subjects in the sense of Section 3, Paragraph 3 are engineering courses, such as:
• Electrical engineering,

• Energy and environmental management,


• Ship technology,
• Civil engineering,
• Aerospace engineering and
• Offshore technology.

A.2:
The subject-related courses of study in the sense of Section 3, Paragraph 3 must have at least content-oriented modules
with the following number of credit points: Mathematical and scientific basics

• mathematics 10 credit points (CP)


• physics 5 credit points (CP)

Engineering basics
• Fluid mechanics 5 credit points (CP)
• Mechanics / statics 5 credit points (CP)
• Electrical engineering 5 credit points (CP)

If applicants are missing any of the above-mentioned principles with the specified scope, the corresponding modules in
accordance with Section 3 (3) are made a condition. Applicants who would have to catch up with more than 20 credit
points in this basic section are not suitable for admission.

A.3
The modules imposed by the admissions committee must be completed in accordance with the applicable examination
and study regulations for the course in which they are taking place. There is no entitlement to the implementation of the
imposed modules in each semester.

A.4
The university admission with admission restrictions regulates the
Bylaws of the University of Applied Sciences Flensburg on the university's own selection process in the
admission-restricted bachelor's and master's courses
in the currently valid form.
