Preface

An Opening Word

This edition is a significant improvement on the fifth edition with an increase in content. All
lessons have been upgraded and additional interactive lessons and exercises have been included,
in keeping with the new CXC CSEC Information Technology (I.T.) syllabus. The existing
assignments, throughout the workbook, have been revised for the benefit of the users. These
assignments are found at the end of each of the first four sections. The section on PowerPoint®
has been retained and expanded upon, as it is now a part of the CXC CSEC I.T. syllabus and is
also a part of the CXC CSEC EDPM syllabus. These five sections are based on Microsoft®
Office 2007. Since the interface in this version of Office is far removed from that in the earlier
versions, all screen shots had to be changed and new ones added to make it easier for the user to
navigate the applications. A new section has been added to the workbook. This new section
covers Introduction to Programming - Introduction to Programming Concepts, Introduction to
Pascal Programming and Introduction to C++ Programming - as it relates to the new CXC CSEC
I.T. syllabus. Web page design is a new feature in this workbook and forms a part of the Word
section.

A Workbook for I.T. Students

This workbook is written for students preparing to sit the CXC CSEC Information Technology
examination. It is an invaluable tool for students taking the CXC CSEC EDPM course. It is also
designed for use in undergraduate Introduction to Computers/Information Technology courses,
or for generic computer training courses.
