SECTION-A (Answer any two questions)

2. a) (i) At 300 K, a first order reaction is 50% complete in 20


min. At 350 K, the same reaction is 50% complete in 5 min.
Calculate the activation energy of the reaction.

3. a) (i) Calculate the work of expansion 1.5 kg of air from 10


atm to 1 atm at 270C isothermally and reversibly.

(ii) Give the relationship between free energy and emf of


a cell. [3]

b) A metal M (atomic mass 50) has a bcc crystal lattice. The


density of the metal is 5.91 gm cm-3. Find out the volume of
the unit cell. [3]

c) At 00C ice and water are in equilibrium and enthalpy


change is 6 kJ mole-1 for the process. What will be the
entropy change and Gibb’s free energy change for the
conversion? [4]

4. a) (i) On electrolysis of an aq. Electrolye between copper


electrodes it is observed that cuprous oxide is formed at
the anode. What will be the mass of the cuprous oxide
formed if a current of 0.965 amp is passed for 2500
seconds? (at. Mass of Cu = 63.5)

(ii) How does electrochemical cell differ form electrolytic


cell? [4]

b) (i) Write the cell reaction for the cell:

(ii) A buffer soln. contains 0.2 gm mole of acetic acid and


0.25 gm mole of sodium acetate per litre. Calculate the
change of pH of the solution if 0.5 mole of N HCl is added to
it. The dissociation constant of acetic acid at room
temperature is 1.8 x 10-5. [3]

c) Show the molecular orbital diagram of O2+ molecule.


State whether it is paramagnetic or diamagnetic.
