THE Wartegg
Projective test devised by Eric Wartegg in 1940 and adapted by C. Biedermann and D.
Alfonso in 1960.
This test can be performed in individuals from seven years of age or older.
The test is made up of eight paintings, which are embedded on a
black background, figure-ground that favors the individual activation phenomenon
projection, indefinite and ambiguous as typical of the general rule of evidence
called projective. Formal presentation of proof that evokes the most primal, so
as if we close our eyes and someone invites us to say what we see as the
free association of psychoanalysis.
The formal elements of proof:
White Background for each table, in itself, limits the massive externalization
projection of character, meanwhile, is determined as the sign of anxiety and expectation
on which project the contents of the projection itself.
Graphic Product or predetermined pattern in the table, it requires the individual to his
response is made on a certain fixed framework and prefigured (Tables
where is the proof) and, curved signs should evoke affective states and
emotional, while the signs straight, move further cognitive and
sound the same.

Funds involve internal drawing made by the individual assessed, pending
They put into play the dynamics of personality, which is evaluated in two
complementary dimensions:
1. Constitutional analysis: the contents of the fields that point to
more stable aspects of personality, which is evaluated with all
test content. Is evaluated: the meaning of the drawings, which is the sum of:
the meaning of each of the drawings over the item field
location.
2. Situational analysis: the state of the personality at the time of
test, which is evaluated from the sequence followed by the individual in
time of its creation, is what tells us the order they were made
fields.
Projective fields:
Are the spaces where they should sign the drawings. These are divided
its meaning and significance, there are 4 and 4 inorganic organic, as such,
determine certain types of designs such as their names suggest.
- Organic: These are the boxes 1, 2, 7 and 8. Inducing the implementation of drawings
animated or nature, are the fields of affective and emotional.
- Inorganic are boxes 3, 4, 5 and 6. Inducing the implementation of drawings
or inanimate objects are the fields of rational, pragmatic and objective.
In this line, addressing an organic and an inorganic field, can be interpreted
as an individual's tendency to frivolity or as a practical tendency, realistic
or objective. Addressing a field inorganic or organic, can be interpreted as
a tendency to ease or to conflict in the emotional involvement.
It should be noted that this change can occur in normal individuals
hence their degree of normality. This item is determined by the number of changes
made and the kind of things drawn, ie, many changes and many drawings
the same type, whether organic or inorganic, show the trend of personality
the evaluation.
It is necessary to note that the analysis and interpretation of such tests
is based mostly in the knowledge that takes psychoanalysis and
meaning and use of symbols as a form of projection of personality,
therefore, the interpretation necessarily vary from one person to another and
more dependent on that of form and meaning, the content placed on them.

Analysis and interpretation of test
1.
Constitutional analysis:
Analysis is aimed at determining the basic structure of personality.
The fields determine the following characteristics:
Field 1:
Is the field of self-concept, ie how the individual perceives himself
indicates growth and expansion. Therefore, the person must respect the centrality of
stimulus. (Country of ego and self)
Indicators:
- Repaint the stimulus or enlarge it indicates a tendency to expose
narcissistically or histrionic manner, while showing a need
assertiveness.
- Multiply the indicated stimulus make it disappear or blend in with the others,
showing a trend of insecurity or low self-concept.
- The shading, in general, can occur in two ways, soft or artistic
which shows an intellectual trend while natural emotional and, or, a
shading hard and rough, showing a tendency to anxiety, distress
or depression.
Field 2:
Is the field concerned indicating the emotional, the ability
interact and how they perceived the affective and emotional. This field
has two poles, one positive and one negative. (Field of the mother)
Indicators:
Positive
- Drawing faces, implies a strong tendency to contact the other and
importance of emotions. If the drawing of the face has limits,
indicates the tendency to keep the boundaries in interpersonal relationships, and if not
have them, otherwise.
3
Page 4
- Drawing from nature, indicating ability to relate, but only
trust situations. It also indicates that the person is contemplative.
- Draw an animal, means taking into account what animal drawing, since the
it shows what we in individual relationships and
how considered.
- Cancel or repaint the stimulus, it can show a tendency to frivolity, the
cynicism or avoidance of interpersonal relationships.
- Drawing objects, may indicate avoidance of relationships marked
interpersonal, or a tendency to intellectualization and lack of warmth
affective. (Defense Mechanism)
Field 3:
Is the field of ambitions, goals, objectives and Life Project, which
indicates what the individual expects and sees a future and life. (Area
career goals)
Indicators:
- Extend the lines of encouragement or give them to grow into the building,
irregularly, may indicate a tendency to be poorly organized.
- Draw stairs ending on a platform of a termination notice
milestones achieved, which may indicate that it is in accordance with
obtained or sealed in their purposes.
- When the stimulus is nullified, it means a tendency to
feel stuck in their goals in the present.
- If you join the three lines, this may indicate that the individual has little
ambitions and only shows when the medium without the required personal initiative.
Field 4:
Is the field of management of unconscious contents, ie how
behave against their anxieties and repressions, is the camp of reaction to
pressures.
Indicators:
- It is recommended that a person draw this area last.
4
Page 5

Is the field of management and how they are dealing with the vital energy or their impulses.
Indicators:
- Join the encouragement and direction to the right diagonal, indicating
presumably tend to be dynamic and active. The same, but the
left, shows a tendency toward passivity and lack of dynamism.
- If the stimuli are not united but has directionality, may indicate
tendency to action which loses some of that energy (poor
channeling).
- If the picture does not address this may indicate a power dam
psychic (too much repression.)
- Drawing objects may indicate no proper channeling of energy.
Field 6:
Is the field that indicates the type of reasoning, the processes of association, analysis and
synthesis, ie the field of cognitive components of personality.
Indicators:
- The integration of the trend line may indicate a proper and balanced
between associations and synthesis of ideas.
5
Page 6
- Make two different but related patterns may indicate a style of reasoning
with better processes of association synthesis.
- Draw unrelated elements, presumably indicating problems
processes of association, analysis and synthesis.
- Not taking into account the stimulus may indicate a low confidence of the individual
in their capabilities.
Field 7:
Is the field of sexual maturity, and at work, shows the attitude interpersonal
the level of relations.
Indicators:
- Respect the stimulus may show a tendency to maintain quality in
relationships.
- If you drew is a real function, may indicate a tendency for good
sexual maturity, emotional and interpersonal.
- When the stimulus shelf may indicate sexual immaturity, emotional and
interpersonal.
- If you draw childish immaturity can be interpreted as sexual, emotional and
interpersonal.
Field 8:
Field is the field of labor itself, implying the ability to
commit to the rule, thus indicating the levels of autonomy. (Field
father)
Indicators:
- If it is drawn below the stimulus, this may indicate a high
level of affiliation, and a level of submission introjective not the norm.
- If it is drawn over the stimulus, this may indicate a high
critical level and difficulty with the standard.

Page 7
2. Situation analysis:
Analysis is made of the current situation and present, the here and now of the individual
evaluated, ie, how the time of preparation of the test is affected
the present rather than the personality structure which is determined by
past.
This analysis depends on the sequence in which the figures were drawn from the
evidence by the individual.
General indicators:
- If you followed the order of the pictures, this can be interpreted as a strong
tendency to regulations, to the methodical, organized, in the manner of a
obsessive. If there is thus no more to add to this
second step of analysis.
- The field that begins then is the preferred and laying
less pleasant ending, which may indicate the style of behavior and
attitudes of the individual.
- If you start with:
or Field 2: individual generating contacts.
or Field 3: persistent person, who takes ambition, which gives much
importance to its goals.
or Field 4: a person who faces the problems of how affective and little
rational.
or Field 5: productive and dynamic person.
or Camp 6: A person with intellectual performance desires, intellectualization
functional and objective view of the world.
or Field 7: sensitive, empathetic and altruistic.
or Field 8: A person with a strong need for protection and affiliation.
- If you end up with:
or Field 2: if the design is organic is an objective person, if
Inorganic presumably painful affection in the present.
7
Page 8
or Field 3: in this may have feelings of limitation and
uncertainty.
or Field 4: the problems are addressed and presents practical ways
appropriate coping.
or Field 5: difficulty making decisions.
or Camp 6: a person who is suspicious of their intellectual,
fanciful and unrealistic.
or Field 7: knowledgeable and self-centered, seeking to satisfy their
needs but has trouble recognizing each other's.
or Field 8: opportunism or high degree of independence and autonomy.
Further comments on the interpretation:
Draw the side:
- Left: may indicate a downward trend and clinging to the past, things
unresolved personality.
- Law: prospective person looking to the future.
- Top: imagination and fantasy.
- Bottom: high-touch with reality.
Draw small may indicate inhibition, timidity and poor social skills.
Large drawings may indicate need for affirmation, or histrionic narcissism
and problems in setting limits.
Nature and landscapes: contemplative person, subjective, good for
not dependent on interpersonal relationships, autonomy.
Characters: the need for others and self-assertion.
