1.3 Core software modules (flat parts, tubular parts,

administration)

The core software contains all the modules required for administration
and machining flat parts and tubular parts:

- Bybase - Byparam
- Bypart - Byview
- Bywork - Byorder
- Bytubepart - Bysort
- Bytubework - BYDBA
- Byconvert - TAR Editor

1.3.1 Installing the core software modules

Please use the correct Bysoft installation CD to ensure you install the
correct version of Bysoft.

Installation:

1. Bysoft 6.x.x

2. License Manager

Please follow the installation instructions on the screen and use

the default installation directories:

Bysoft -> C:\Program Files\Bysoft6

License Manager -> C:\Program Files\Bystronic\LicenseManager

Please note:
The core software modules must always be installed.

Please note:
Instructions on how to install and activate the License
Manager are given in a separate document.

1.3.2 Bysoft database

As soon as several workstations are installed with Bysoft 6 it makes

sense to share the Bysoft database in order to work with the same data
for all users.
Therefore the local installed database, partroot and workroot
directories have to be copied to a server or a shared network drive (e.g.
“X\bystronic”). Next the Bysoft 6 configuration file (bysoft6.ini) has to
be modified on all workstations in order to point to the database on the
server/network drive.
The bysoft6.ini can be found in the following directories:

Windows XP Bysoft 6.0.0 – 6.8.1

“C:\WINDOWS”

Windows XP Bysoft 6.8.2 - …

“C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bystronic\Bysoft6”

Windows 7 Bysoft 6.8.2 - …

“C:\ProgramData\Bystronic\Bysoft6”

Modification of the datapath’s:

DBFilename= …
Partroot= …
Workroot= …
ParamDBPath= …

As an option the reports and techchnology wizard can be shard as well if

you also copy the reports and techassist directory and modify the
datapath’s for ReportRoot= and TechassistDir= .

2 Update

This section explains how to update an existing Bysoft 6 installation to a

newer version.

Please note:
Bystronic strongly recommends performing a Bysoft and
BOS database backup before EVERY update.

2.1 System permissions

The following local Windows system permissions are required in order to

update Bysoft 6:

Function Permission
Update Local administrator

ByAcademy

2.2 Core software modules (flat parts, tubular parts,

administration)

2.2.1 Bysoft database backup

Bystronic strongly recommends performing a Bysoft database backup

before the update.
The Bysoft database essentially contains the Database, Partroot and
Workroot folders.
The best way to find out the backup location of these folders is to open
the bysoft6.ini file, which is located under the following datapath’s:

Windows XP Bysoft 6.0.0 – 6.8.1

“C:\WINDOWS”

Windows XP Bysoft 6.8.2 - …

“C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bystronic\Bysoft6”

Windows 7 Bysoft 6.8.2 - …

“C:\ProgramData\Bystronic\Bysoft6”

1.
Open the bysoft6.ini file using a
text editor (e.g. Windows Notepad)

2.
Look in the [Directories] section
to find the backup paths of the
database folders

ByAcademy
Technical Training

3.
Use Windows Explorer to open the
backup paths and create a backup
of the folders.

Please note:
If working documents or Technology Wizards have been
modified to work with, it is best to back up the reports and
techassist folders as well.

2.3 Updating the core software modules

Please use the correct Bysoft installation CD to ensure you install the
correct version of Bysoft.
The installation procedure for the update is the same as for a new
installation (see page 6), although the following points should be
noted:

During the update, Bysoft may want to install the software in a new
folder (e.g. “C:\Program Files\Bysoft6_2”).
To avoid working with more than one version of Bysoft by mistake, it is
best to change the installation folder to the standard default folder:
Bysoft -> C:\Program Files\Bysoft6

Please note:
The database folders database, partroot and workroot
are not changed during the update.
All the other folders for reports and techassist are
overwritten.

2.4 Bending modules

2.4.1 BOS database backup

Bystronic strongly recommends performing a BOS database backup

before the update.
The BOS database contains the bosdict, components, repository and
system folders.
The best way to find out the backup location of these folders is to open
the “BOS database configuration” program, which is located in:
C:\Program files\Bending\programs\BOSDBA.exe

1.
Open the BOSDBA.exe program

2.
Look in the Configuration
section to find the backup paths
of the database folders

3.
Use Windows Explorer to open the
backup paths and create a backup
of the folders.

Please note:
As an extra safeguard, Bystronic recommends using the
BOS Administrator program and its XML Export Wizard
to export the entire machine configuration including
backgauge fingers, tools and material curves.

2.4.2 Updating the bending modules

Please use the correct Bysoft installation CD to ensure you install the
correct version of Bysoft.
The installation procedure for the update is the same as for a new
installation (see page 8), although the following points should be
noted:

In the Update process, it is best to select the option “use existing BOS
database” in order to continue using the existing bending data.

Once the installation has finished, the old BOS database contents must
be updated:

Run the BOS database

configuration program and
update the BOS Base:

2.4.3 Updating the machine software

When updating the Bysoft bending modules, it is sometimes also

necessary to update the MMC Bybend machine software, if its BOS Base
version is older than that installed in the Bysoft workstations.
The following table shows the compatibility of MMC Bybend, Bysoft, BOS
Base and Designer/Unfolder:

MMC Bybend Bysoft BOS Base Designer/Unfolder

3 Service packs

Minor changes and fixes are usually dealt with by providing free service
packs. We issue separate service packs for Bysoft and BOS Base/MMC
Bybend.

Please note:
Service packs are sent directly from Bysoft Support to the
relevant branch office on request (e.g. by email or
Bystronic ticket download).

3.1 System permissions

The following local Windows system permissions are required in order to

install a Bysoft 6 service pack:

Function Permission
Service pack installation Local administrator

3.2 Bysoft service pack

This section describes how to install a Bysoft service pack:

1.
Save the service pack locally on
the PC and select the correct
language folder.

The readme.txt file contains

information on the changes/fixes
contained in the service pack

2.
Select the entire contents of the
folder and copy to the clipboard

3.
Paste the copied files into the
Programs directory of the Bysoft6
installation folder, overwriting the
existing files.

Default:
“C:\Program
Files\Bysoft6\programs”

Please note:
There is no automatic setup for the Bysoft service packs, so
they need to be “installed” using copy and paste. Usually
there are just a few files involved, which can easily be
copied.
