AUBURN PSSA CRICKET RULES

(revised December 2009)

Age Groups
Juniors: Turning 8, 9 or 10 years during the current year
Seniors: Turning 11, 12 or 13 years during the current year
Teams
12 players per team for juniors
11 players per team for seniors
Playing Time
Juniors Seniors
24 overs across 2 weeks 24 overs across 2 weeks
 A match starts at 9.20 and finishes each week at 10.45 (allow time to pack up the kit)
 Each team will bat for 12 overs each and then shall field for 12 overs each week.
 In the second week the batting team will continue batting their remaining 12 overs and and
then shall field for the remaining 12 overs
 In a senior game if a team is dismissed before their allocated overs, then the fielding team
can commence batting and can endeavor to bat out their full 24 overs.
 As there is no home team a toss is taken to determine batting and fielding roles.
Umpiring
 Each team will umpire either the junior match or senior match and will score the match.
Field Dimensions
 Both teachers will determine the dimension of the boundary and this will be marked with
witches hats.
 Seniors will use the pitch and if there is just one pitch the juniors play on the grass with the
stumps 20 metres apart.
The Junior Match
 The match will be played with 12 players.
 The batting team has 6 pairs. If a batter is out they move to the non facing wicket and the
pair loses 2 runs.
 A pair cannot achieve a negative score.
 The bowlers can only bowl a maximum of 4 overs each.

The Senior Match


 The batting team has a maximum of 24 overs.
 A batter retires on his first scoring shot after 30 runs.
 A bowler can bowl a maximum of 6 overs each.
 A match needs to have had 12 overs to constitute a match.
 If the batting team is dismissed before their 12 overs the fielding team would start batting.
Wet weather
 If play cannot be continued in the second week, then the result is taken from the 12 overs
played. If the 12 overs were not completed and/or the second batting did not pass the total
of the team that batted first then the match is considered a draw.
 If the first week of play cannot be played then the match is determined by a 12 over match
and the juniors bat in pairs for 2 overs and bowlers can only bowl for 2 overs

Wides and No balls


 A wide is ball that is beyond the hitting zone of the batter.
 A wide is automatically declared if the ball lands outside the pitch.
 In the event of a wide the ball is replayed and the batting team is given one run.
 The bowler can bowl a maximum of 8 balls.
 A no ball occurs in Juniors occurs when both feet pass the batting crease before delivery.
 A no ball occurs in Seniors occurs when the front foot of the bowler is completely passed
the batting crease.
 A no ball occurs if the ball is thrown (bent elbow)
 A no ball occurs if the ball is bowled too far above the batters head that they cannot strike
at the ball.
 A bowler cannot bowl the ball underarm.
General Rules
 No fielder is to be within 10metres of the bat between point and fine leg.
 A over is 6 bowled balls.
 If a player is absent for any reason, another player may fully substitute for the absentee
(the substitute may bat or bowl)

Equipment
 Teams use an Incrediball or Wonderball or an equivalent type. (ie different brand)
 The wickie uses gloves.
 The stumps are wooden. 3 at each end and no bails are used.
 A batter may use gloves, but it is not compulsory.
 An individual may use a personal bat.
 Teams are expected to pack kits with sufficient bats, balls and stumps.
Finals
 There is no semi-final. A final is to be played late in Term 4. It will be played between the
teams that finished first and second.
Results
 Results and score sheets are to be faxed or emailed to the convener by both teams at the
completion of the match.
