The Art of Layering Clothing Showcase

Photos 2nd February 2011

Meet Naomi Lee, a 37 year old mother of three and my muse for the evening showcase “The Art of Layering Clothing” as part
of the Titahi Bay Desperate Housewives evenings, held on the first Wednesday of every month at The Mariner Pub.

Naomi is of average height approximately 5ft 4” and is modelling clothes from my wardrobe that vary from size 6 to size 16;
which goes to show how inconsistent the rag trade has become with their dress sizing. In real terms, Naomi and I are size 10-
12.

All make up used is from the Nutrimetics range, and because Naomi has a complexion prone to flushing, we deliberately
paled her complexion down to over compensate for modelling, on the night in a warm environment. There were 65 women in
attendance and a great time was had by all. Below is information on the products used, and whilst we didn’t have access to a
professional photographer I am pleased to say that these are all real images with no help from photo shop.

Naomi’s Nail Polish was Toasted Maple & is an end of line RRP $20 (On Special $9.90 until Feb 28th)
Red mesh top Vamp Brand $9 from Red Cross Shop,Black empire top from Shanton $30, Hat from Farmers $24.95.
Shawl Top Witchery Brand original price $90 australian, I picked this up for $20 Australian, it was the last one on the rack &
the shop assistants didn’t really understand how to wear this multi functional garment. The Jeans belong to Naomi and are
Buttlifters from Jeanswest.

Mesh is a great transeasonal fabric that can be worn all year round, to add warmth & vibrancy, or to keep you cool in
summer.Whilst the shawl top is great to add texture, warmth and with it’s diagonal crossover breaks up the torso area in a
structured manner. The brown hat adds a great contrast to Naomi’s mediterranean colouring.
The Second Look Modelled by Naomi, a Cheesecloth Tunic with vintage style ruffles, $35 from Fashion Experience in
Whakatane, a cheapjack style shop similar to coin save. Leggings $11 from the Warehouse & shoes are from New Look in the
UK, black satin shirt ¾ length sleeve with empire line style cut $8 from The Red Cross. Brown sleeveless draped
cardigan $33 from Fashion Experience in Whakatane. Black stretch belt a key working piece in my wardrobe from Jeans
west $24.95RRP, I paid $16 in their sale.

The vintage style ruffles are great for enhancing a smaller bust especially when framed by a contrasting colour, this is
emphasised more when using a belt underneath the bust line. The tunic covers a multitude of body challenges, but having
the pleat in the front helps to produce a more flattering bodyline through the midriff area, and the draped cardigan creates a
narrowing effect through the sides as well as creating the illusion of length. To enhance or emphasise curves use a shirt and
belt over the tunic to create contrast, depth and shape. The pre-layering on the tunic draws the eye past the torso, creating
interest & contrast, around the narrowest part of the body the legs.

Underneath the black slip is my little black dress Nancy Ganz body shaper I purchased in a sale for $99, the Reversable
neckline slip was $44.90 from a boutique underwear store in Auckland, it has adjustable straps and can be worn with a
slight V neckline as displayed in the frontline view or slightly rounded square as in the backline view. The Blue Lace dress
cost $60 Australian, from a Melbourne designer & the Apron $150 from Daisy –T Now Kooky Fashions, as part of the Rosary
collection but is 10 years old, It was designed by Terese Regan when she was pregnant, but as you can see it is both timeless
and versatile, aprons are a great way to add colour or tone done colour in an outfit.Black Lace Ruffle Shirt is from
Shantons $35, worn in conjunction with

the previously seen black stretch belt from Jeanswest. Again for those super observant people Naomi’s gold & bronze Jandals
modelled below with the cheesecloth vintage tunic were from one of my favourite stores the Number 1 shoe warehouse for a
bargain of $15.
