Improve the Standard of Living Cause the Damage of Environment

Standard of living refers to the level of wealth, comfort, material goods, and necessities
available to a certain socioeconomic class in a certain geographic area, usually a country. In this era,
people are competing to improve their standard of living because of the millennial era. Now people
need technology that supports their living. Sometimes people don’t understand if they damage their
own environment. One of the examples is changing the function of forest. Every year at least 78
billion babies are birth. The population is growing but the size of the earth is constant. Of course we
need more space to build a house for the standard of living. So, they forced to cut the forest and
change its function into housing. Cut the trees will influence the water absorption. It can cause
landslide in the highland and flood in the lowland. That damage can ruin the environment. To
improve the standard of living, people also start to think about their comfort. One of the examples is
they need a comfortable house with comfortable furniture and high technology tools. To make all of
that, we need to cut some trees, kill animal to take the fur, and make a factory that make high
technology product for us. The factory will release pollution and polluted our environment. The
damage of the environment is an inevitable consequence. Because we cannot stop people to
improve their standard of living. They need it to maintain their life in this era.

Development of Information and Communication Technology

The last 20 years, technology is growing so fast especially information and communication
technology. With the development of information and communication technology we can easily
connect with other people although we were separated so far. Actually, the purpose of the
development of information and communication technology are too make our life easier, better,
cheaper and saver. We can use internet as one of the development of technology. So we can know
what happened out there without we have to be at that place when the moment happened. Not
only for communication, but in economy sector too. Now there is technology like e-banking and
there are many online shops out there. It is easier to buy something without we have to go to the
store by our self. Before the development of communication, we have to send news by mail. And it
takes longer than we send news by e-mail in this era. Once again, the development of
communication and information technology gives us so many benefits that make our life easier than
before. But, if there is a benefit, there will be also a negative effect. Because it is easier to take as
many information as we need, sometimes we also get wrong information or hoax. With the easier of
the technology we will feel that meet somebody in person is no need anymore. But actually, it is
important. Because human is a social being. We still have to interact with other people in reality. Not
through the internet. People will start addicted to internet and it will change their way of life.
Internet users also have to filter information that they get. Because not all information is true and
good for us. We have to be smart and take benefits of the development of information and
communication technology, but also we have to filter the negative effect of this development.
