Introduction:
LNG is the acronym for liquefied natural gas that has been made over millions of years of
transformation of organic materials, such as plankton and algae. Natural gas is 95% methane,
which is actually the cleanest fossil fuel.
An LNG carrier is a tank ship designed for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG). As the
LNG market grows rapidly, the fleet of LNG carriers continues to experience tremendous
growth.

LNG transport:

LNG ships, or carriers, provide the link in the LNG Chain between the locations where the
natural gas is liquefied and where it can be consumed. LNG ships enable large amounts of
clean natural gas energy to be transported to the consumer over large distances from the LNG
Liquefaction Plant. The LNG is delivered to marine import terminals where the LNG is
warmed and converted back into a gas, through a regasification process, before being
delivered into the gas pipeline network. LNG can also be distributed to consumers in road
tank trucks, bunker vessel/barges.
Almost 2,000 liquefied gas ships operate around the world, most of which transport liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG ). There are currently more than 500 LNG ships involved in worldwide
trade and the majority of them can each carry from 90,000 to 175,000 m3 of LNG. In
comparison, there are approximately 12,000 oil tankers; of those approximately 800 are very
large crude carriers (VLCC’s ).

New vessel construction has increased the LNG carrier ship cargo capacity up to 267,000 m3
(71 million gallons ). The cost of LNG ships today is between $185 million for a 175,000 m3
carrier up to approximately $250 million for larger ships.

Different type and sizes of Liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers

 LNG carrier. LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) Carriers are specifically designed

to trade a high volume of LNG. ...
 Moss tanks (Spherical IMO type B LNG tanks) This system is named after the
Norwegian company which designed them (Kvaerner Moss). ...
 IHI (Prismatic IMO type B LNG tanks) ...
 TGZ MARK III. ...
 GT96. ...
 C-type. ...
 LNT-Abox system.
Vessel Size:
Parameter values
long 300 m
wide 43 m
draft 12m
brood 125000-175000 cubic m
Speed 21 knots

A typical modern LNG ship is approximately 300 meters ( m ) long, 43m wide has a draft of
about 12 m. LNG ships majority of modern vessels are between 125000 cubic metres and
175000 cubic metres in breadth LNG carriers are capable of speeds of up to 21 knots.

Examples of LNG carrier:

Mozah vessel of Qatar, is the world’s largest LNG carrier today. The ships is 266000 cubic
meters broad and a size equivalent to about four football grounds. The length of vessel is 345
meters and 53.8 m width
Containment System:
The majority of large LNG ships sailing today have been designed to carry LNG either in
spherical tanks (Moss sphere design) or in geometric membrane tanks (membrane design).
Small LNG ships/barges carry LNG in membrane or type-C pressurised tanks. LNG ships
may also be utilised to function as Floating Storage

Conclusion:

Natural gas is one of the mainstays of global energy. Where it replaces more polluting fuels,
it improves air quality and limits emissions of carbon dioxide. In this analysis, we explore
how widespread and durable this role might be in some of today's key energy markets.
