*Interested candidates those who are holding CDC & STCW courses done can also send their
application form for TEO Course, after completion of Pre Sea they will be recruited
immediately as TEO on board our ships.

Medical Standard:

Physical Standards: Candidates should be healthy and physically fit for sea service as per
STCW 95/MS Medical rules 2000 as applicable to seafarers. Candidates will have to undergo a
full medical check up through our Panel Doctor approved by D.G.S hipping. To know more

Eyesight: Distance vision (unaided): 6/12 in each eye; or 6/9 in better eye and 6/18 in other
eye. Normal colour vision. Candidates will have to undergo a full eyesight test by a Company
Medical Doctor.

Admission Procedure:

Eligible candidates will be called for written test, interview, medical test and
final selection.

" The Company will inform the candidates about time and venue of written test.
" The Company will not provide any lodging, boarding, travelling or any other incidental expenses to the candidates incurred
during admission process.

Pattern of test: (Essay type total 50 Marks).


" Electrical Engineering questions, General English & Verbal ability- 75 marks. Interview – 25 marks.

How to apply

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria should apply in English only.

The Application should be submitted in the format given in the website only, with one
recent passport size photograph pasted neatly in the right hand top corner.

A Demand Draft of Rs. 1000/- (Rupees One thousand Only) drawn on a Mumbai branch of
any Nationalised Bank crossed “A/c Payee Only” and payable to “The Great Eastern
Shipping Co. Ltd.” must be enclosed with the Application Form. Any Application received
without the Demand Draft or for lesser amount will not be considered.

Applicant must write his name in CAPITALS on the reverse of the Demand Draft.

Duly completed Application Form along with the Demand Draft should be sent in a sealed
envelope super scribed as “Application for TRAINEE ELECTRICAL OFFICER for _______________
Centre” to Mr. Arun More, Fleet Personnel Dept., The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd.,
Ocean House, 134/A Dr. Annie Besant Road, Mumbai – 400 018 (Write choice of medical
test centre in the blank space).

Duly completed Application should reach us not later than 1800 hours on November
30th 2010:

Career Path

4 month training at the Institute -> 8 months training on ship as Trainee Electrical Officer ->
8 months training on ship as Asst. Electrical Officer Post successful clearance of E.O Exam
(Written / Oral) will be absorbed in GE Shipping as Electrical Officer.

Stipend / Wages Structure:

1) He will join the vessel as TEO (Trainee Electrical Officer) on Gross contractual wages for Rs.
15,000/- per month for 8 months.

2) If Chief Engineer & vessel Superintendent find him suitable for taking independent charge
& certify the same through their Appraisal Report, he will be promoted to AEO (Assistant
Electrical Officer) either on the same ship or the other ship, either immediately or when
vacancy available (at company’s discretion). His Gross Contractual wages will be Rs.
30,000/- per month on foreign & India centric run vessel and Rs. 35, 000/- per month on
Coastal run Vessel. He will work on this wage scale for minimum eight or more months.

3) After completion of all above mentioned rank wise time on board & after considering his
all Appraisal Reports, now while joining third contract he will be joining as EO (Electrical
Officer) on MUI wages 1st year basic, subject to the approval of Head of the Fleet
Personnel Department.

Note: -

• Generally step 1 & 2 should be finished in first Contract, either on same ship or another ship.
This is considering that TEO should be able to take independent charge within the
specified Contractual Training period, else he has to put more time in first contract i.e. time
to take independent charge.
• If an AEO is found extremely good based on his Appraisal Reports, he may be promoted to
EO (put on MUI wages 1st year basic) on an early date, after taking the clearance from the
Technical Superintendent & subject to the approval from Head of Fleet Management.

General Instructions.

1. The Applicants are responsible to ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria, regarding
educational qualifications, MMPE test, age and eyesight.

2. Eligibility criteria for admission to the course are as per the guidelines issued of the
Directorate General of Shipping and hence are not changeable.

3. If any false / incorrect information furnished by the Applicant is detected at any stage,
his/her candidature will not be considered and if selected, he will be removed from the
training course and course fees will be forfeited

4. Course fees, advance fees, Examination fees once paid, will not be refunded, partly or
otherwise, under any circumstances.

5. As the applications are processed by a computerised system, it is essential that the


application be forwarded strictly in accordance with the prescribed format.

6. Duly filled in Application Form should have one photograph pasted and Demand Draft
attached. Originals/photocopies of certificates etc. should not be sent with the
application form.

7. Candidates should possess at least Twelve (12) recent passport size photographs (front
view) and these photographs only must be used on Application Form, Interview, Medical
Examination, training etc. Any change of photograph will disqualify the Candidate.

8. Candidates, at the time of interview, will be required to produce original copies of proof of
age, Degree Certificate, HSC Certificate or equivalent, SSC Certificate or equivalent,
where applicable from Govt. recognized board/universities.

9. Results of the Interview, shall be displayed on our website www.greatship.com under the
heading ‘downloads’ on the home page from time to time. Candidates are also advised
to view our website for latest information.

10. Selected candidates would be required to produce certificate of having been successful
in the Merchant Marine Personality Evaluation (MMPE) test.

11. All communication will be sent at the address given in the application. Request for change
in address will not be entertained. Information regarding the selection process shall be
displayed on our website.
