I. Introduction
Congratulations! You’ve purchased the latest version of SCRABBLE® Interactive.
You’ll find it the most comprehensive version available anywhere. There
are many reasons to enjoy this new version.

B. Installing SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition
Use the setup program to install SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition.
Insert SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition Disc in your CD-ROM drive. If you're
installing the software for the first time, the Welcome window is dis-
played.
Click Install SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition.
Click Next and review the License Agreement. Click to accept the
terms of the Agreement. Specify where you want to install SCRABBLE®
2005 Edition. The default installation path is C:\Program Files\SCRAB-
BLE® 2005 Edition. Click Browse if you wish to specify a different path.
The installation program will check the available hard disc require-
ments. Click OK and then Install to begin the installation.
When the installation is complete, click Finish.
You can also install support software (DirectX®9 and Acrobat® Reader®)
if they’ve not yet been installed in your machine.
C. Starting SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition
Insert the SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition disc into your CD-ROM drive.
The Welcome dialogue box appears.
Click Play to start SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition.

If SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition Disc is currently in your CD-ROM drive, or
if Autoplay is turned off on your CD-ROM drive, you can start
SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition by selecting Programs>Ubisoft>SCRABBLE®
2005 Edition>SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition in the Windows® Start menu.
D. Uninstalling SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition
Select the Uninstall option from the Windows® Program menu if you
wish to remove SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition from your system.
Or:
Choose Programs>Ubisoft>SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition>Uninstall from
the Windows® Start menu.
II. Room Environment
A. Main Menu
The features of SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition are organized into different
rooms: Playroom, Championship Room and Online Room.
Each room provides a set of features that lets you discover or play
SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition in different modes.
1. Profile
You must create a profile when launching SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition for
the first time. To create a profile, type your Name, select your Level, Age,
Gender and Language. Click on Create. To finish, click on Log In. The
next time you launch your game, you'll be automatically logged as the
latest profile until you change it by creating a new one or loading anoth-
er one.
2. Load
The Load option in the Main menu provides you with a quick access to
loading Standard, Duplicate and Crossagram saved files.
3. Rooms
SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition is organized in Rooms.

B. Options
Options are displayed in the Main menu and in all the rooms. At any
time, press Escape or click the Menu button to access to your menu
and then click the Options button.
You can personalize your game by changing Skins, Boards, Windows,
and Sound Effects, or by sorting the Tiles.
III. THE Classroom
The CLASSROOM grants you access to the Tutorial, the
Library, the Solve Position Mode and the Help file.
A. Tutorial
This section grants you access to the Official SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition
Rules, Hints, Exercises and Commented Games.
B. Library
The Library grants you access to a list of games played by SCRABBLE®
experts.
C. Solve Position
1. Description
In the Solve position window, the Mentor
provides the Best Solution for your position.
Set the tiles, submit the position then click on the
Mentor to see the best submitted move.
Compose a position by filling the Board, your Rack
and the Opponent rack, and then click Submit. If the
6 position is correct, all the tiles turn green. You can
now click on Game Mentor to see the best playable move.
Afterwards, you may carry on with the position or quit the mode.
2. Placing and Clearing Tiles
Start by deciding where you want to set your tiles by selecting
the Board, Rack or Opponent rack radio button.
- Board: compose your word by clicking on the tiles. They’re sent to
the working area. You can then set the word on the board by drag-
ging it with the right button and orient it with the left button.
You can also compose your word directly on the board.
- Rack and Opponent rack: fill racks by clicking on tiles.
To clear tiles from board, working area and racks, you can right-click
on each tile or use the Clear board or Clear racks buttons in the
Solve position window.
D. Help File
This section grants you access to the SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition Manual.
IV. The PLAYROOM
You will find a description of all game Modes and Types on the
following pages.
A. The Board
The tile colour code on the
board is:

- In English: Letters from A to O horizontally, numbers from 1 to 15
vertically. According to convention, notation for words is letter+number
with the a for across and d for down.
- In French: Letters from A to O vertically, numbers from 1 to 15
horizontally. According to convention, notation for horizontal
words is “letter+number” and “number+letter” for vertical words.
Moving Your SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition Board
You can change the Board Position by dragging it on the screen. Its
position will be saved automatically in your layout

 B. Tile Placing
There are two different ways of placing tiles on the board.
Direct drag and drop:
Directly drag tiles from the rack to the board using the Left mouse
button
- Everywhere: Click the Left mouse button to select, validate and
move a tile.
- Board: Right-click to return a tile to its previous position.
- Working area: Right-click on a word and drag it to the board. While
maintaining the right-click, click the Left mouse button to orient the
word vertically or horizontally.
Keyboard entry:
Click on an empty square of the board where you want to set the first let-
ter of your word. A horizontal arrow appears in this square. Another click
on the square transforms the arrow into a vertical one. The arrow orien-
tation indicates the orientation of the word. Now enter the word with
your keyboard.
Note: in Duplicate Mode, once a human player has played, his or her word
disappears and the CPU word is played. Then, the best one is selected
and set on the board.
C. Saving and Opening Games
In any Mode you can access the Pause menu by pressing the Escape but-
ton on your keyboard or by clicking the Menu button. To save a file,
select Save on the Pause menu. To open an existing game, select Load on
the Pause menu.
D. Dictionary
The Dictionary lets you verify or search a valid
word in the Official SCRABBLE® Words
International List.
Type your letters in the top box. Then click on one
of the following buttons to perform an action:
Search: Searches in the official dictionary
Build: Lists valid words using any combination
of letters
Anagram: Lists valid words using all the letters
Hooks: Uses the word as prefix or suffix and provides an exhaustive
list of valid words
Word: Sorts the results alphabetically (the list is sorted by letter).
Extra letters are in lower case capitals.
Length: Sorts by length

Hooks: Sorts by number of hooks
You can access all the words set on the board by scrolling
down the entry field
Note: There are no definitions in the English game.
E. Game Mentor
The Mentor suggests the best playable word as well as extensive
information on the Board and Rack.
F. Printing a game
At the end of the game, SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition allows you to print or
cancel your game. Choose Print to print out your game
to the default printer.
G. Game Types
Each Game Setup requires that you choose a Game Type.
1. Standard
The classical way to play SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition
2. 7/8
The “7/8-letters” mode is available in both Standard and Duplicate
SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition modes. Each player draws eight letters instead
of seven but is allowed to play only seven. The SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition
score bonus is granted when the seven letters are used in a single move.
As usual, the game ends when there are no more tiles in the bag and/or
no more valid words to play.
3. Joker
The Joker mode is available in both Standard and Duplicate
SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition modes. Each player has six letters and a blank
in his rack at each turn. The blank is replaced as soon as it is played. The
blank has no value. It takes the value of the letter it stands for, even if the
letter is no longer available in the bag.
As usual, the game ends when there are no more tiles in the bag
and/or no more valid words to play.
4. Blitz
In Duplicate Mode, standard thinking time is 3 minutes per move
and only 1 minute in Blitz games.
H. Game Setup Window (for Scrabble® and Duplicate)
1. General Tab
You can choose the Game type you want to play by checking its box.
Check the "Enable" Box to choose the duration of the game and of each
move.
Check the "Random player order" box if you want the player order to
be defined randomly".

 M. Crossagrams Game
This Mode is a single-player only crossword game where a list of tiles
is replaced with anagrams.
1. Description

By default, when a Crossagram Game starts, the first horizontal word
(top left) is highlighted.
If you use the keyboard, a letter entered with the keyboard appears in
the selected square of the board, if it is one of the rack’s letters. The
next square (according to word orientation) is then selected. If the last
square is filled with a letter, the first square of the word is the next
selected square.
2. Method
Left-click on an empty grid square: all the squares of the word are
highlighted and a direction arrow marks the selected square.
The tiles in the rack correspond to the letters of the word
in the anagram list. Toggle horizontal/vertical orientation for the word
(horizontal by default).
Left-click on a tile on the rack: the tile is stuck to the pointer while
the Left button is pressed.
Drag a tile on a black square: the tile returns to its initial position.
Drag a tile from the Working Area and drop it on a non-empty square
of the board: the dropped tile disappears and returns to the Working
Area. Click on a line of the anagram list: highlights all the squares of
the word set on the grid. Tiles change in the rack.
Click the Hint button: displays hint letters one by one on the board.
Click the Submit button: the grid is submitted for corrections. The score is
calculated and displayed: number of correct answers/number of words.
- If there is no error, a congratulation message is displayed.
- If there are errors, wrong words and empty squares are crossed out
in red.
In the PLAY AGAIN box, click NO to return to the game,
click YES to load a new grid.

V. THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROOM
Welcome to the CHAMPIONSHIP Room. where you set up Tournaments
and play Rated Games. Rated Games affect your overall SCRABBLE®
2005 Edition rating. Everything counts: no taking back moves, no advice,
no coaching, and no hints. It’s between you and your opponent.
A. Rated Game
1. Understanding the Rating System
There are two rating systems (Online and Offline) working the same
way.
When you play a Rated Game, its result affects your online
SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition ratings. SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition records a
separate rating for online and offline games in the TOURNAMENT
Room. When you play on Ubi.com, SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition keeps
a few of your game statistics, including your record, your performance
against individual opponents, etc.
A game played via LAN doesn’t affect your online rating, or your
online statistics, as a Ubi.com game does.
2. Play a Rated Game
Click on the Rated Game button.
Choose your opponent from the list.
On the upper right corner, three numbers illustrate the impact on
your rating should you win, lose, or draw against the selected
opponent.
Click Personality to view the details of each opponent.
Select a Time Control (Minutes per Game).
Click OK to start the game.

 3. Adjourning a Game
Select ADJOURN in the Pause menu.
4. Resuming an Adjourned game:
When you click on Rated Game, a list of adjourned games is displayed.
Select the game you wish to play.
5. Withdrawing:
To withdraw, click on the withdraw button in the Pause Menu.
B. Tournament
1. Creating and Running a Tournament
In the Tournament room, select Tournament.

Select the number of players in
the tournament. SCRABBLE®

Specify a Time Control. This will be applied for every game of the
Tournament.

Check the Rated Tournament check box, if you want the tournament
results to affect your rating.
Click Next.
Then choose the tournament players.
From the right column, select the opponent you want to add as a par-
ticipant, and click <<. The selected opponent appears in the left list of
tournament participants.
Repeat this step for every opponent you want to add.
If you want to remove a participant, click >>.
If you want to check out the playing style, or biography on each
available opponent, click the Personality button.
Click Next.
In the # of Rounds box, type a number. SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition
displays the number of games in the tournament, depending on the
tournament type and number of rounds specified.
Click Finish.
In the Save In box, specify a location and name for the saved
tournament. SCRABBLE® 2005 Edition saves the tournament as a CMT
file with your specifications.
b) Duplicate
Select your opponent and the number of rounds. Please note that
the number of rounds must be an odd number.
2. Viewing Tournament Results
Once all the tournament rounds are competed, the Tournament Results
appear.
Click Games to display a window with the summary of each completed
game.
3. Suspending and Adjourning Tournaments
Select Adjourn in the Pause menu.
4. Loading a Tournament
Click the Load button in the Main menu or in the Pause menu in
Tournament mode > Load
Open the CMT file you saved.
The tournament starts where you left off.
