Lesson 7: Rizal’s Second Soujourn to Europe
Activity
Present the reasons why Rizal proceeded for the second sojourn to Europe and drawing from
the reasons, create your personal view or reflection on the importance of this second trip in
terms of his experiences from the different places. This is good for 30 points at least four
paragraphs.

Following the events after the enemies of Rizal tagged him as somewhat of a threat to
the society, he was force to flee the country even if it was against his will. He went into several
several countries in Asia, North America and Europe, gathering and chronicling his experiences
as he went into his trip.

Rizal’s second trip was very eventful, unlike his first travel which has fixed goals in
education and learning, this was more on growth and for the fruition of his second novel. His
initial travels to Asia where he stumbled upon various cultures helped him with being more
understanding of other cultures. He was indeed appreciative but inquisitive at the same time. I
realized to myself that it is important to not just find the bad and ugly in things but also the good
in them.

In this second travel, he became immersed in many different things. He delved in

history, language learning, arts, literature and publication. With all the things going on in the
Philippines, with the oppression and cruelty of the Spaniards, Rizal never forgot about the true
cause of his travel, nationalism.

Overall, my take on Rizal’s second trip proved to have a more significant impact that the
last one. Nowadays, knowledge is power and with knowledge the use of it must be of relevance.
With Rizal’s second trip, it was deemed necessary in order to kickstart the revolution that aims
for independence from these foreign chains thats been holding the country before. Just like
Rizal’s unwavering nationalistic fervor, we as the youth of today must secure our love for our
motherland.
