Title of the lesson: Present perfect simple with just,already, yet

Objectives: by the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
- complete sentences using present perfect simple with time adverbials just
already,since
- use correctly past simple and past perfect simple in sentences
- develop the students’ reading skills, correct intonation and pronuntiation
- have a short conversation using present perfect simple

STAGES
1. Warm-up a) Informal conversation 7’
T tries to create a pleasant and comfortable
atmosphere by means of routine conversation:
T: Good morning children! How are you Ss: Good morning teacher!We are fine thank
today? you!
T: Who’s on duty today? S: I am on duty today.
T: Who’s absent today? S: ..........is absent today.

b) Checking homework
T: What was your homework for today? S: Our homework was exercise 6,page 43.We had
to complete the questions with the correct tags.

T checks their homework and corrects the Exercise 6. Complete the questions with the
mistakes. correct tags.
1. Your name’s Jake, isn’t it?
2. They live in Newquay, don’t they?
3. Nicola didn’t have a good journey, did
she?
4. She’s been travelling all night, hasn’t she?
5. They’ve got a cousin in Florida, don’t
they?
6. You don’t live here all the time, do you?
7. He speaks English very well, doesn’t he?
8. We’re going to have a good time, aren’t
we?
2. Presentation a) Lead-in 3’
T: Today we are going to talk about present
perfect simple with time adverbials just
already, yet and are goin to make a parralel
between past simple and present perfect
simple. Ss write the title of the lesson in their notebooks.
T writes the title of the lesson on the bb. 15’
b) Elicitation
T: We use the present perfect simple tense:
 To talk about duration of events and
actions that started in the past and are
still going on, with for or since.
e.g. They have lived here for two years.
 To talk about event which have Ss give more examples with verbs in the present
recently occured. perfect simple.
e.g. We have just returned from school.
 With phrases which are linked to the Ss take notes in their notebooks and pay attention
present: yet, already, just, ever, never, to the teacher’s exlanations.
so far, up till now, recently.
The words just and already usually come
between the auxiliary verb and the main verb.
We normally use just and already in positive
statements.
e.g. I’ve already done something wrong.
I’ve just arrived.
c)Checking comprehension 20’
T: Now that we’ve talked so much
about present perfect simple, let’s do some
exercises.
Look at exercise 8, page 44. Use the cues
below and What’s ...like...? to ask and answer
questions. Use the present perfect simple with
already.
T: Who’d like to come to the bb at the first S: I would!
sentence? Ss solve the exercise at the bb.

T correct Ss’ mistakes if necessary 1. A: What’s the new sports stadium like?
B: It’s great! I’ve already swum there
twice.
2. A: What’s the new Spielberg film?
B: It’s great. I’ve already seen it with
Jake.
3. A: What’s the latest Boyzone album like?
B: It’s great! I’ve already listened to it
three times.
4. A: What’s Niko’s cafe like?
B: It’s great! I’ve already been there to
have a coffee.
5. A: What’s your new trainers like?
B: It’s great! I’ve already worn it to play
tennis.
6. A: What’s your new computer game like?
B: It’s great! I’ve alredy played it ten
times.

T: Now let’s use present perfect simple with Ss look at the pictures from the book and
just and yet. Take a look at the exercise 8,b , choose two related cues to make statements
page 44. about them.

1. He’s just woken up but he hasn’t got


dressed yet.
2. She’s just made a pizza but she hasn’t put
it in the oven yet.
3. He’s just written a letter but he hasn’t
posted it yet.
4. She’s just had a shower but she hasn’t
dried her hair yet.
5. She ‘s just washed the clothes but she
hasn’t ironed them yet.
6. He’s just collected his han mail but he
hasn’t read it yet.
T: Now let’s make a paralel between past
simple and present perfect simple.
 We use present perfect simple tense to
talk about a completed action in the
past that is still of present interest.
 We use the past simple tense to talk
about a completed action in the past.
NOTE: We can use past time adverbials
like ago, yesterday, last year, in 1998
with thw past tense, but not with the
present perfect tense.

List each expression under the correct Ss put each time expression under the correct
heading tense: two years ago, just, in tense heading.
1987, never, last month, so far, ever,
yesterday, yet, since last year, already,
up until today, at two o’clock, for the
last three months.

3. Homework T: ‘Your homework for next time is exercise 2’


9, page 45. You have to complete the
conversation using the present perfect or the
past simple of the verbs.

4. Dismiss T marks or just takes notes about the Ss’ Ss record the marks to be signed by their teacher 3’
pupils activity and parents.
